Looking for a Broadway fix without the show but all the music? Dallas has it covered<\/p>\n

Far be it from me to discourage anyone from taking in a show \u2014 especially a musical. But you don\u2019t always need a ticket to a touring blockbuster to get immersed in the musical theater vibes.<\/p>\n

In fact, folks can easily hit up a local LGBTQ+ bar, check listings for a rave night or find some local artists serving up cabaret goodness to get that Broadway fix.<\/p>\n

These three options deliver big on the showtune experience if you just wanna get down with some Sondheim, Miranda or Schwartz.<\/p>\n

The fun part of each option is that it\u2019s not just theater fans who show up on these nights; local theater performers often join in for the fun because they are just like us. Just don\u2019t get in their way if they need to belt out a song during the night.<\/p>\n

Show out with show tunes at \u2018Broadway Rave\u2019<\/strong>
Get ready to trade the quiet theater rows for a high-energy dance floor where musical theater meets full-throttle nightlife. Broadway Rave events warrant a venture to House of Blues, lower Greenville or, next week, Deep Ellum.<\/p>\n

At a Broadway Rave event, a live DJ spins showtunes, turning the club into a massive sing-along dance party. Heck, folks are even invited up on stage to lip-sync for their lives and serve up their inner drama queens.<\/p>\n

Requests aren\u2019t uncommon, but the DJ is definitely speaking the theater vocabulary when they drop bangers from Six, Rent, Hairspray \u2026 and the list goes on and on.<\/p>\n

Rock the BOAT at \u2018Broadway on a Tuesday\u2019<\/strong>
Every week at Alexandre\u2019s, something magical happens. Often, the cast of a local production takes over the small stage for the cabaret party Broadway on a Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Casts have come from companies all across North Texas such as Farmer Branch\u2019s The Firehouse Theater, Theatre Arlington and Richardson\u2019s Repertory Theatre Company, as well as from Dallas companies like Uptown Players and Theatre Three. But it doesn\u2019t stop there.<\/p>\n

This marriage of local theater, live music and a queer space is an inviting spot for a simply grand time. Area musician Adam C. Wright, a regular Uptown Players music director, is often at the helm on keys, with a variety of hosts manning the mic. Themes range from show takeovers into open mic nights, host and friends nights, cultural and Pride themes and even some dragstravaganzas.<\/p>\n

Grab a drink, have a seat and get on the BOAT.<\/p>\n

Life is a cabaret at Broadway Dallas<\/strong>
Just like at the great music halls of New York and Paris, Broadway Dallas has announced the launch of Club 909, an all-new cabaret concept that happens at the historic Music Hall at Fair Park.<\/p>\n

The first performance is set for Sept. 3-5, with Broadway star Reeve Carney \u2014 best known as Orpheus in the Tony Award-winning musical Hadestown and most recently starring as Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby on Broadway \u2014 handling host duties.<\/p>\n

\u201cClub 909 gives us the opportunity to offer our audiences something deeply personal and intimate, right here in one of Dallas\u2019 most storied venues,\u201d Ken Novice, BD president & CEO said in a press release.<\/p>\n

Staged in the Music Hall\u2019s transformed Crystal Terrace, this elegant outing will have a seating capacity of just 200 guests per evening with a fully immersive cabaret-style setting complete with full tableside service, including specialty drinks and chef-curated light bites.<\/p>\n

This will be Broadway Dallas\u2019 first foray in its 85-year history into cabaret programming, and we can\u2019t wait for a fancy night out of nosh and musical numbers.<\/p>\n

Sit back and watch at Showtunes Tuesdays<\/strong>
Sometimes you may just be in the mood to listen to iconic showtunes and perhaps even discover some new and unexpected favroites. For that, head to Woody\u2019s Sports and Video Bar every Tuesday evening. A longtime neighborhood staple, Showtunes Tuesdays fills the bar\u2019s many monitors with a lineup of legendary Broadway performances, film musical clips and fan-favorites.<\/p>\n

No hosts, no pressure to sing, no problem.<\/p>\n

This is always a fun hang to get a showtune fix with your fellow queers and maybe even burst out into a singalong. Why not?<\/p>\n
