\n\tIt\u2019s official: HBO Max<\/a> has given an eight-episode, straight-to-series order to its long-in-the-works Jimmy Olsen Superman<\/a> spinoff series, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. The half-hour comedy has been titled The People v. Gorilla Grodd<\/a>, which also is a meme.<\/p>\n

\n\tSkyler Gisondo<\/a> as Jimmy Olsen and Jimmy Tatro<\/a> as Gorilla Grodd headline the series, done in a true-crime docuseries\/mockumentary style. Season 1 will be centered around DC bad guy Gorilla Grodd, who has psychic powers and other skills after his encounter with an alien spaceship. The character was created in 1959 by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, and was most recently featured as part of DC\u2019s Arrowverse.<\/p>\n

\n\tThey are joined by several Superman actors reprising their roles \u2014 Beck Bennett<\/a> as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover<\/a> as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce<\/a> as Perry White \u2014 as well as new cast additions Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz. <\/p>\n

\n\tTony Yacenda and Dan Perrault serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers with Yacenda set to direct all episodes. James Gunn and Peter Safran also serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn The People v. Gorilla Grodd, a superintelligent ape is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. In an eight-part \u201ctrue\u201d crime docuseries, the Daily Planet\u2019s Jimmy Olsen reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis\u2019 most famous murder trials.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn HBO Max, The People v. Gorilla Grodd joins the DC drama Lanterns, which just launched to solid viewership<\/a>, as the streamer and DC Studios\u2019 development slate has been going through a reset. It is the second scripted comedy series on the platform alongside Stuart Fails To Save the Universe, which has superhero elements and a DC-themed episode coming up. The Big Bang Theory spinoff was recently renewed for a second season<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe People v. Gorilla Grodd, from DC Studios in association with Warner Bros. Television, has had a blinking greenlight for a while, with casting done ahead of a formal order. <\/p>\n
