JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 Cox Media Group, the parent company of Action News Jax and radio partner 104.5 WOKV, is working to help families fighting childhood cancer.<\/p>\n
The 12th annual Care-A-Thon began on Friday to raise money. Volunteers manned the phones at the CMG studios on the Southside to take donations for the Child Cancer Fund. Every dollar raised stays with families in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n
\u201c$100 donation, that does things like provide gas cards for families to get to treatment and food cards,\u201d said Carla Montgomery, Executive Director of the Child Cancer Fund.<\/p>\n
>>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<<<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n 7-year-old Saige Jackson of Orange Park has had on her proverbial boxing gloves since Kindergarten. \u201cShe was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, so we\u2019ve been battling for the past two years,\u201d Saige\u2019s mom Sydney explained. <\/p>\n Saige told us how much fun she had at Friday\u2019s event. \u201cI got to do makeup. I got to eat snacks, color, and I got to talk on the microphone,\u201d said Saige.<\/p>\n Kathleen Patti survived rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of spinal cancer, at age 6 and again at age 14. I am here today at 30 years old, so I\u2019ve been in remission now for about 13 years,\u201d said Patti. <\/p>\n The Care-a-Thon ends at 6 p.m. on Friday.
