While most of Texas contends with scorching afternoon highs at the height of summer, other towns will get a slight reprieve from triple-digit days as a cold front<\/a> moves in and brings possible storms, which the National Weather Service says<\/a>\u00a0could become severe.<\/p>\n

A burst of air sweeping in from the north is bringing storm clouds to the Texas Panhandle this weekend, according to the National Weather Service Amarillo office. The odds are highest near the Texas-Oklahoma border, in towns like Dalhart or Borger.<\/p>\n

\u201cLingering moisture combined with a stalled boundary may trigger another round of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening,\u201d the NWS Amarillo office warns.<\/a> \u201cAny storm that does form could generate strong to damaging wind gusts, so be sure to have multiple reliable ways to receive warnings.\u201d<\/p>\n

The latest forecasts show storms moving in as early as 3 p.m., but Texas Panhandle towns could see activity from 5 p.m. Friday, August 21, through 1 a.m. Saturday morning. The further south into the Lone Star State, the lower the chances. The national forecaster says only a few isolated storms are expected to develop.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s looking like a gloomy week ahead for most of the Texas Panhandle. The National Weather Service predicted a second cold front could sweep in Saturday, bringing with it more rain odds.
