Luiz C. Ribeiro for NY Post

The order halts the roughly $1.4 million gut renovation that many of Gordillo’s more-hardscrabble neighbors along gentrifying Decatur Street viewed with a mix of awe and apprehension.

“I think it’s really counter everything that he’s supposed to represent,” said Kristen Singleton-Ferrari, 59, a neighbor.

“After some people have renovated or fixed up their house, obviously they feel as if they have to pass on some of that cost. But some of these renovations are not easy to do and that makes it not easy for the normal New Yorkers to be able to live in this neighborhood.”

The order dinged Gordillo for not getting proper permits for interior and facade work. Luiz C. Ribeiro for NY Post

Gordillo, 38, who co-chairs New York City’s DSA chapter, crowed for years about being a union electrician — but didn’t even hire one to rewire the home his millionaire mommy and daddy bought him, city records show.

Not one company, in fact, that Gordillo hired for the project had any record of being union-affiliated.

The mustachioed silver-spoon socialist tapped companies, according to a review of 11 permits, to:

Install a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system throughout the home

Rewire the whole house

Put an addition on the roof, as well as two decks

Revamp the entire front facade, adding a front porch

Add a new room in the home’s rear

Install solar panels

Not every permit details an expected cost, but the moneyed Marxist seemingly was willing to plop stacks of cash over the renovation project that started in 2023.

Records show $78,000 slated for heating systems, $60,000 for sprinklers and $28,000 for the solar panels.

“They tore that house down completely like there was nothing there and they built this big green wall in front of it, so you couldn’t see anything,” said James, 40, a neighbor who lived across the street his entire life. “All it was, was a big wall of permits.”

Gordillo proudly played up his union membership. unionGustavo/X

Perhaps the entirely open shop home renovation project is fitting now that Gordillo himself is no longer a union member.

Gordillo was fired from his apprenticeship program in March after he no-showed his employer for months, the IBEW Local 3 union confirmed this week.

He conveniently — or deceitfully — didn’t mention that fact last month when he pushed DSA rank-and-file for full-time pay and benefits by telling sob stories about supposedly doing interviews on construction job sites with an earpiece, sources previously said.

The whining worked — DSA members passed a measure to pay Gordillo and his co-chair Grace Mausser $95,000, plus benefits.

The salary score came as Gordillo’s profile rose, including an appearance on Fox News in which he ripped Big Apple landlords for complaining that a 12% return on investment isn’t enough.

“We don’t think that anybody should have the constitutional right to double-digit returns on their investment,” he said.

The interview didn’t go over well with many DSA members behind the scenes, with many “openly complaining” about it, one source said.

Gordillo received a leg up from his wealthy family. Cindy Schultz for NY Post

Gordillo’s dismissive attitude toward the struggle of property owners and rhapsodizing about the plight of tenants contrasted wildly with his own cushy background.

The son of a successful businessman, Gordillo was born in Peru and immigrated to Florida as a child.

He studied literature at Yale University and later attended the Ivy League’s School of Art, where he pursued sculpture.

The Yalie moved to New York City in 2016, finding work at a high-end Chelsea gallery and living in a $2,600-a-month Lower East Side apartment for which his father paid the rent.

Gordillo’s parents bought the Bed-Stuy home for him and his brother in 2019.

The avowed socialist tried to embark on a blue-collar path in 2024, when he joined the electrician union.

He proudly played up his labor bona fides on X, taking the handle @unionGustavo and describing himself as “@nycdsa co-chair, union electrician.”

But he stopped showing up to work about the same time as fellow privileged DSA member Zohran Mamdani was elected in November, union officials said.

Amid Gordillo’s attempt to gain working-class cred and rise to DSA prominence, he tapped workers to completely redo his posh home.

Renovations at Gordillo’s home cost at least $1.4 million, records show. Luiz C. Ribeiro for NY Post

Completed renovations include its entire front facade, the planting of lush landscaping and new decks.

“This is a totally new building. It’s a very difficult and expensive process but he did it,” said another neighbor who lives across the street.

“It’s very quiet, very private. I wish I could have the private decks like that, but we can barely pay our mortgage. I have no penthouse in my future.”

Singleton-Ferrari, for her part, wasn’t impressed.

“I do have to say that it stands out a bit as a sore thumb,” she said.

“I don’t think it matches the landscape of the rest of the neighborhood. And I’m a little bit like shame on you for kind of going against what you were saying to others.”

Renovation work apparently continued on the house’s second floor until Friday, when the stop-work order arrived.

A Department of Buildings spokesperson said the stop work order was issued after a 311 complaint was filed — after The Post revealed the massive overhaul earlier this week.

The permit for the big-ticket renovations outside had expired back in May, according to the spokesperson.

Gordillo didn’t respond for comment.

So much for solidarity!
