{"id":1015995,"date":"2026-08-22T00:35:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T00:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1015995\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T00:35:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T00:35:15","slug":"philly-parks-officials-say-increased-patrols-and-enforcement-at-devils-pool-worked-but-the-battles-not-over-yet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1015995\/","title":{"rendered":"Philly parks officials say increased patrols and enforcement at Devil\u2019s Pool worked, but the \u2018battle\u2019s not over yet\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) \u2014 Philadelphia parks officials said a crackdown on illegal parties in Valley Green last weekend worked, and they intend to continue stepping up patrols and enforcement.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Police and parks officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/kywnewsradio\/news\/local\/online-petition-pushes-police-parks-and-rec-crack-down-illegal-parties-devils-pool\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">launched a crackdown last weekend<\/a> on illegal parties in the park that violate laws against swimming, open flames, amplified sound and alcohol, especially around Devil\u2019s Pool, a popular gathering spot. A parks spokesperson would not say whether any citations were issued but said the plan worked.<\/p>\n<p>A parks department spokesperson said Friends of the Wissahickon reported less trash even though the weather was great and the park was busy.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/enforce-the-law-stop-unlawful-swim-parties-pollution-in-the-wissahickon-creek?source_location=homepage_local_section\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Change.org<\/a> petition prompted the increased police and ranger presence, as well as educational signs.<\/p>\n<p>But Jennifer Cass, who started the petition, said she\u2019s not declaring victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are still going back there to swim, I\u2019ve seen it, they\u2019re still testing the limits of the law, but it has significantly reduced the amount of partying, which has reduced the amount of garbage being dumped in the creek,\u201d Cass said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a major difference, but the battle\u2019s not over yet. We don\u2019t want this to be a one-time thing, and then next year there\u2019s large parties again.
