{"id":10179,"date":"2025-06-24T07:45:18","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T07:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/10179\/"},"modified":"2025-06-24T07:45:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T07:45:18","slug":"kat-cammack-blames-dems-for-health-care-workers-unease-ending-her-ectopic-pregnancy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/10179\/","title":{"rendered":"Kat Cammack blames Dems for health care workers unease ending her ectopic pregnancy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/author\/rep-kat-cammack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Kat Cammack<\/a> (R-FL) accused Democrats of spreading misinformation about a Florida <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">abortion<\/a> law that led healthcare workers to express concerns about ending her ectopic pregnancy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When the Republican congresswoman went to the emergency room last month seeking to end her ectopic pregnancy, she said medical providers worried that doing so would violate a Florida law that bans most abortions after six weeks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/policy\/republicans-life-threatening-pregnancy-collided-with-floridas-abortion-politics-ad96f8d4?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=ASWzDAjmY59sfSQQnPdLbRdqRZEUJH5WcNB6S5zawXLtS6Z3yF7NW8dOqA19j5vHmSQ%3D&amp;gaa_ts=685938a3&amp;gaa_sig=KBz7_Jz0tiBhyxF5G8ngN6SjAFQJWbMi9XOodSD0ERUL6pTex5MNC3whM2hFHDNzH3y7N7RoEzc8mOxT2SNLIw%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">according<\/a> to the Wall Street Journal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hospital staff worried about losing their licenses or going to jail if they complied with her request, the Florida lawmaker said, even though she said that ending an ectopic pregnancy doesn\u2019t qualify as an abortion. And even under the premise that it was an abortion, exceptions to the law allow for such procedures in cases such as ectopic pregnancies when the mother\u2019s life is at risk, Cammack added, further arguing that since she was only five weeks along in the pregnancy, any termination wouldn\u2019t have violated the six-week ban.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cammack told the outlet that doctors eventually agreed to help her terminate the pregnancy after she outlined her case and pulled up the law on her phone for healthcare workers to read.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She faulted Democrats, not the state law,\u00a0for her difficulty in obtaining healthcare, saying that the Left has spread misleading messaging about the abortion restrictions. Such tactics have led medical professionals to believe they could face criminal charges even if they terminate pregnancies like ectopic pregnancies, which are allowed under the law, Cammack said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was absolute fearmongering at its worst,\u201d the Florida Republican concluded, adding that she \u201cwould stand with any woman \u2013 Republican or Democrat \u2013 and fight for them to be able to get care in a situation where they are experiencing a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/1075970\/desantis-defends-floridas-six-week-abortion-ban-from-trump-criticism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> signed the Heartbeat Protection Act into law<\/a>, which bans most abortions after six weeks, Florida regulators <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wusf.org\/2024-05-02\/florida-acha-issues-abortion-rules-on-treating-emergency-medical-conditions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">issued guidance<\/a> clarifying that terminations of certain types of pregnancies, including ectopic pregnancies, would not be classified as abortions under the 2023 law. Medical support to end ectopic pregnancies, an often life-threatening circumstance that occurs when a fertilized egg grows outside the main cavity of a woman\u2019s uterus, would instead be classified as \u201ctreatment\u201d options, the state Agency for Health Care Administration announced in two rules published last May.<\/p>\n<p>Last September, the AHCA accused critics of the abortion law of spreading \u201cmisinformation\u201d that the restrictions made it illegal for women to terminate ectopic pregnancies. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe law is clear: abortion is permissible at any stage of pregnancy in Florida to save the life and health of the mother,\u201d the state agency<a href=\"https:\/\/ahca.myflorida.com\/content\/download\/25110\/file\/9-19-24-Notice-to-Providers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> wrote in a notice <\/a>to healthcare providers. \u201cAbortion is also available<br \/>when the pregnancy results from rape, incest, or human trafficking, or has a fatal fetal<br \/>abnormality\u2026.Additionally, a miscarriage is not an abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/kat-cammack.webp.webp\" alt=\"Rep. (AP Photo\/Mariam Zuhaib)<\/p>\n<p>A similar situation to Cammack\u2019s fight with healthcare providers recently played out in Georgia, where hospital staff worried they couldn\u2019t take a pregnant brain-dead woman off life support because of a state law prohibiting most abortions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Adriana Smith\u2019s family<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3444776\/life-support-removed-georgia-brain-dead-mom-adriana-smith-deliver-baby\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> wanted the option to pull her life support for months<\/a>, but said Emory University Hospital wouldn\u2019t do so due to concerns that it wasn\u2019t legally permitted to do so. Republican state officials rebuffed accusations that the LIFE Act was responsible for keeping Smith alive against her family\u2019s wishes, arguing that \u201cremoving life support is not an action \u2018with the purpose to terminate a pregnancy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3358672\/trump-administration-freeze-planned-parenthood-family-planning-funds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>TRUMP SET TO FREEZE PLANNED PARENTHOOD FAMILY PLANNING FUNDS PENDING DEI REVIEW<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is nothing in the LIFE Act that requires medical professionals to keep a woman on life support after brain death,\u201d a spokesperson for Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3415935\/adriana-smith-family-blames-georgia-abortion-law-life-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">previously told<\/a> the Washington Examiner. \u201cRemoving life support is not an action \u2018with the purpose to terminate a pregnancy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The debate ended last week when Smith delivered a tiny baby boy, leading the family to announce they would pull her life support on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Rep.
