SAN ANTONIO – Monday marked nine years since a 20-year-old \u2014 with dreams of joining the Marines \u2014 was murdered outside his home in Northwest San Antonio.<\/p>\n
FOX SA has covered Isaac Orozco\u2019s case from the beginning. Over the years, the San Antonio Police Department has released surveillance footage and named persons of interest \u2014 bringing moments of hope \u2014 but the case remains unsolved.<\/p>\n
Anchor Ashley Paredez met up with Isaac\u2019s mother as she reflects on nearly a decade of grief, hoping this will be the year someone finally speaks up.<\/p>\n
Since that day in 2016, Janie Edwards, has spent every July 28 \u2014 and most days in between \u2014 at the cemetery.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy son was, he was young. He was only 20 years old,” said Janie Edwards, Isaac’s mother.<\/p>\n
Isaac Orozco was shot and killed in front of their apartment near Culebra and Loop 410. His mother says a friend had picked him up for dinner. Two hours later, he was dropped back off.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a video. You can\u2019t make out the person\u2019s face, but there\u2019s a video,\u201d said Edwards.<\/p>\n
Surveillance video from that night shows the alleged shooter pulling up.<\/p>\n
\u201cToyota 4Runner, that\u2019s what it looks like,” said Edwards.<\/p>\n
Isaac can be seen at the bottom right in the video, looking the other way. Just moments later, shots were fired.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think he was scared and didn\u2019t want to knock on the front door. He knew if he went around the sliding door… maybe he thought someone was going to chase him, follow him,\u201d said Edwards.<\/p>\n
Edwards says she ran outside after hearing the commotion.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was touching his arm. I was telling him not to close his eyes, but he was already cold,\u201d said Edwards.<\/p>\n
He had been shot once in his lower stomach, hitting an artery \u2014 and passed away in his mother\u2019s arms.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was just in shock; I didn\u2019t know what to do. I think I just froze at that moment, and I think from that moment on, God just took me,” said Edwards.<\/p>\n
Isaac\u2019s mother has held on to the light through the darkness \u2014 becoming the true force behind the fight for justice \u2014 with Isaac\u2019s grandmother by her side.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m always going to love him, till the day I get to see him again, you know. And I just want people out there to know that I\u2019m not going anywhere,” said Edwards.<\/p>\n
At one point, there were two persons of interest in the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe owner of the car \u2014 that\u2019s one. And then another guy that\u2019s friends with the owner of the car,\u201d said Edwards.<\/p>\n
She tells us that early on, police confiscated what they believed could be the same black car from the video.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey found gun residue in the window where the person shot but the person that the vehicle belongs to, he right away came up with an alibi \u2014 that he was shooting deer from a window,” said Edwards.<\/p>\n
The original detective on the case retired around three years ago. Edwards still holds on to what he told her before he left.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to crack any time now, and you need to stay close to that phone. So, I\u2019m over here thinking there\u2019s two people of interest and then from that to cold case, it just doesn\u2019t add up to me,\u201d said Edwards.<\/p>\n
A new detective is now assigned to the case. Janie says although she continues sharing information, things are at a standstill.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was having an argument with somebody on Twitter but now, when it comes to me asking the detective, that person was never interviewed. It\u2019s just \u2014 a lot of holes were in this case,” said Edwards.<\/p>\n
Janie believes everything is likely connected, as the two persons of interest and the person from Twitter all went to the same high school. In the meantime, she continues to hold on to her faith.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur Lady of Guadalupe \u2014 we have a lot of faith in her, because she was a mom too and she knows my pain,\u201d said Edwards.<\/p>\n
She hopes whoever did this will also know her pain \u2014 and finally come forward.<\/p>\n
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.<\/p>\n
