Portuguese\u00a0soccer star Qu\u00e9vin Castro died after collapsing in the middle of a friendly in Portugal on Saturday.<\/p>\n

He was 25. <\/p>\n

The midfielder collapsed during a match between his club, third-tier Portuguese side Real Sport Clube, and Estrela da Amadora at the Est\u00e1dio das Seixas stadium in the city of Malveira and was transported to a local hospital where he died.<\/p>\n

The Lisbon Football Association and Real Sport Clube announced Castro\u2019s death on Saturday. <\/p>\n

\u201cQuevin Castro was far more than a player, he was a member of our family, leaving a mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing him, both on and off the pitch,\u201d Real Sport Clube said in a social media post, per AP<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo the family, friends, and the affiliated club [Real Sport Clube], we extend our deepest condolences during this tragic time for Portuguese football,\u201d the Lisbon Football Association\u00a0added on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Castro made his professional debut for English club West Bromwich Albion in 2021 against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.<\/p>\n

He also had stints in the U.K. with Burton, Notts County and Gateshead before joining York in 2023. He went on to log 15 appearances for the Minstermen before returning to Portugal. <\/p>\n

West Brom stated it was \u201cdevastated\u201d to learn the passing of Castro.<\/p>\n

The club paid tribute to Castro during its match against Burnley on Sunday. They will hold a period of applause in the 25th minute and players will also wear black armbands. <\/p>\n
