{"id":1019341,"date":"2026-08-23T16:44:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-23T16:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1019341\/"},"modified":"2026-08-23T16:44:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-23T16:44:21","slug":"lando-norris-wins-f1s-dutch-grand-prix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1019341\/","title":{"rendered":"Lando Norris wins F1&#8217;s Dutch Grand Prix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ZANDVOORT, Netherlands (AP) \u2014 McLaren\u2019s Lando Norris passed Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton in the space of a single lap before holding on to win the Dutch Grand Prix for back-to-back <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/formula-one\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1<\/a> victories Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Norris started on pole but was overtaken by Antonelli\u2019s Mercedes at a restart after the race was stopped for a heavy crash by home hero <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/verstappen-f1-red-bull-contract-b45d265b469b541184cf8579d808a43c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Max Verstappen<\/a>, who was unhurt, shortly after the start.<\/p>\n<p>Norris reeled in Antonelli before passing him around the outside of the first corner in a daring move on lap 54 of 72, then took the lead from Ferrari\u2019s Hamilton before the lap was over.<\/p>\n<p>The defending champion held on with old tires to take the win. \u201cThis fight is still on,\u201d he said over team radio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe move (to pass Antonelli) was good. I knew I was not going to get many chances. Every lap I spent behind him my chances got lower and lower,\u201d Norris said. \u201cWell played from my part&#8230;I probably had one chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Antonelli was second after his Mercedes teammate George Russell was ordered to move out of his way, following a failed gamble on a tire change by Antonelli. Russell clung on to finish third ahead of Hamilton.<\/p>\n<p>Antonelli and Russell question Mercedes strategy<\/p>\n<p>There was tension at Mercedes as both Antonelli and Russell criticized the team\u2019s decisions over the radio.<\/p>\n<p>Antonelli called his team\u2019s strategy \u201ctoo risky\u201d when the team congratulated him on second place, while Russell earlier seemed to object to being asked to give way to his teammate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs he fighting for the win? Or is he planning to catch Norris?\u201d Russell questioned, at a point where Norris was far ahead of both.<\/p>\n<p>Russell relented after the race and said he felt Mercedes had made the right decision to avoid the two battling for position as Hamilton closed in behind.<\/p>\n<p>Antonelli \u201cwould have overtaken anyway so it was the right decision,\u201d Russell said. \u201cIt\u2019s been a strong weekend overall so I\u2019ll take the positives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There was a half-hour delay after Verstappen slammed into the wall on a damp first lap, stopping the race and ensuring a nightmare end to his last home race in the Netherlands for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>The Dutch Grand Prix is <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/dutch-grand-prix-f1-2027-47ead7e100b553cb17e3f8f5d87ee17d\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dropping off the schedule<\/a> after this season and the many orange-clad Dutch fans who turned up to support Verstappen instead saw Norris and his orange McLaren take the win.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Leclerc was fifth on another disappointing day for Ferrari ahead of its home race in Italy in two weeks\u2019 time. Norris\u2019 teammate Oscar Piastri was sixth after running in the top three early on, and Liam Lawson salvaged seventh for Red Bull after being called in to replace the injured Isack Hadjar.<\/p>\n<p>Nico Hulkenberg was eighth for Audi, with Fernando Alonso ninth in the best result of an otherwise-disastrous 2026 for Aston Martin.
