ATLANTA\/DALLAS \u2014 A frightening development on a recent American Airlines flight forced the plane to land in Atlanta on its way to Dallas Fort Worth.<\/p>\n

Channel 2 Action News <\/b>reported Saturday<\/a> when Flight 2398 had to land.<\/p>\n

ABC News<\/b> spoke to passengers on the flight, who said a laptop fire happened just before the plane could land.<\/p>\n

ABC learned that several passengers may have been injured.<\/p>\n

Jessica Irgens, one of the travelers on board, told Good Morning America<\/b> that \u201cit was absolutely terrifying.\u201d<\/p>\n

Irgens was heading to Dallas from Atlanta when she saw flames and smoke just rows ahead of her on the plane.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just saw the smoke first, and then it all happened really fast,\u201d Irgens said. \u201cHe was trying to get it away form him into the aisle.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Federal Aviation Administration said flight attendants were able to contain the fire in a thermal containment bag.<\/p>\n

Irgens told GMA that multiple passengers worked together trying to put the fire out, and some were injured.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were two individuals that had their hands in bags of ice and they were, you know, shaking visibly, just very, like, shocked,\u201d Irgens said.<\/p>\n

On a recording from the conversation between Air Traffic Control and pilots on the flight, four to five passengers were potentially burned by the laptop.<\/p>\n

American Airlines said in a statement on Saturday that one person was treated on scene and released.<\/p>\n
