PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A First Alert Day is in effect today due to extreme heat and a 30% chance of thunderstorms in the Valley tonight. <\/p>\n
The extreme heat First Alert days will remain in place through Saturday, Aug. 29.<\/p>\n
Temperatures peaked at 113 degrees this afternoon, just one degree shy of the 114-degree record set in 2011. We are monitoring the conditions closely and will update you if we tie or break that record.<\/p>\n
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist across northern and southeastern Arizona through this evening. Depending on how the outflow boundaries from these storms interact, there is a 30% chance of a thunderstorm late tonight in the Valley. Even if the rain misses us, gusty winds and blowing dust are possible.<\/p>\n
Monday morning may start with lingering clouds before clearing to mostly sunny skies and a high of 109. Extreme heat continues Tuesday through Sunday, with highs climbing back between 110 and 114 degrees alongside minimal rain chances.<\/p>\n
Up in the high country, scattered showers and storms will continue through Monday. While storm activity will taper off starting Tuesday to bring mostly dry conditions through Friday, the White Mountains will maintain a chance of showers and storms through most of the workweek.<\/p>\n
