Comedy sources tell us that live on Saturday night in NYC, one of Eddie Murphy<\/strong>\u2018s kids, Myles Murphy<\/strong>, did a surprise set at the West Side Comedy Club. And he then got a history lesson on his dad backstage!<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s only been performing for less than a year,\u201d a source said of Myles, adding that club manager Gina Savage <\/strong>was introducing Murphy around.<\/p>\n

After performing, Murphy got a history lesson about his dad from comedian Jeffrey Gurian.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe got up, did his set, and he\u2019s really good,\u201d said the insider, adding, \u201cthough everyone remarked how handsome he was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Myles, 33, is the fourth of Eddie\u2019s 10 children. His mom is Eddie\u2019s ex-wife, model Nicole Mitchell Murphy<\/strong>, who was married to Eddie from 1993 to 2006.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Said an insider of Myles: \u201cDuring the day he\u2019s a screenwriter\u2026 Performing comedy was something he\u2019s always wanted to do, and he\u2019s performed in several of the clubs in LA.\u201d<\/p>\n

We hear that after the set, Myles chopped it up with some comics on the scene who reminisced about his dad back in the day. One performer, the ubiquitous comedy guru, author and ex-dentist, Jeffrey Gurian<\/strong>, who wrote the book \u201cMake \u2018Em Laugh\u201d about the venerable club The Comic Strip, was telling Myles how Chris Rock<\/strong> was discovered by his dad at the club in 1985.<\/p>\n

Eddie got his start at The Comic Strip, and was even managed by the club\u2019s owner, the late Richie Tienken, for the first 11 years of his career. Said a witness: \u201cJeffrey got to sit with Myles for almost an hour telling him stories about his dad that he never heard before, and had no idea about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Myles is a screenwriter by day who is performing comedy at night. Instagram\/@mylesmurphycomedy<\/p>\n

\u201cOne story in particular involved [ex-\u201cSNL\u201d star] Joe Piscopo<\/strong>. Eddie was just a featured player on \u2018SNL\u2019 and the show was running short one night, so Jean Doumanian <\/strong>\u2014 who produced the show for one year \u2014 asked Joe to do five minutes of comedy. Joe was such a nice guy, and was a fan of Eddie\u2019s, and he suggested to let newcomer Eddie do the five-minute spot, and give him the big break.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when, \u201cEddie called his manager Richie in a panic, and told him they asked him to do five minutes \u2014 but he wasn\u2019t sure he should do it. Richie asked him why and Eddie said, \u2018Because I curse!\u2019 So Richie said, \u2018Well don\u2019t curse!\u2019 Eddie did the five-minutes \u2014 and cursed \u2014 so they had to bleep it out. But that five minutes became a blessing for Eddie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen it came time to renew his contract on \u2018SNL\u2019 Richie went in to negotiate,\u201d Gurian recounted to Myles, we hear. \u201cThey were going to renew Eddie\u2019s contract leaving him as a featured player, until Richie reminded them that Eddie saved the show by doing the five minutes, so they made him a regular cast member and his salary went from $750 a week to $3,000\u2026 and Richie said that\u2019s when he started taking his percentage. Before that he didn\u2019t take anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

We hear that when Gurian was driving home after meeting Myles, he was listening to Piscopo\u2019s live radio show, \u201cBulova\u2019s Sinatra Showcase,\u201d in his car on WABC. The former \u201cSNL\u201d star and Ol\u2019 Blue Eyes expert was broadcasting live from Winnie\u2019s Jazz Club on West 38th Street, and was coincidentally talking about Eddie on the air.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when night owl Gurian decided to head to the club to try and get on Piscopo\u2019s show! He even stopped at home in Midtown to throw on a sports jacket, then, \u201cran over\u201d and was then handed the guest mic and told the Myles story live on the air.<\/p>\n

Myles is performing tonight <\/a>in LA at the Laugh Factory for a \u201cSpot Light\u201d comedy special that\u2019s being taped.<\/p>\n
