For under a million dollars, one can find all sorts of housing configurations: park- and subway-adjacent studios, one-bedrooms hidden in carriage houses or former shoe factories, and even the occasional true two-bedroom. We\u2019re combing the market for particularly spacious, nicely renovated, or otherwise worth-a-look apartments at various six-digit price points.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This week: one-bedrooms with statement windows.<\/p>\n
727 Dean St., Apt. 3R<\/a><\/p>\n \n The bedroom at this Dean Street apartment, as seen in this listing photo, feels surprisingly roomy. The floor-to-ceiling windows at this Dean Street one-bedroom are one of the main draws here. They get you some nice leafy views from the reasonably sized living area and lead out to a terrace that could be your morning coffee\/Aperol spritz spot or just additional storage. Back inside, the kitchen\u2019s open-concept, so yes, you\u2019ve got a breakfast bar and plenty of counter space, plus dark-stained cabinets that feel dated (but somehow have more character than a lighter, generic finish). The bedroom also comes with oversize windows and can fit a king-size bed, and the in-unit washer-dryer is in a closet across the hall. This is a new-build condo (albeit from 2010), which feels most obvious in the uninspired bathroom fixtures, but the monthlies are nice and low: $591 for the common charges and $137 for the taxes (although the 421-a abatement expires next year, so those might go up quite a bit). That gets you a bike room and shared roof-deck, and Vanderbilt Avenue is right down the block with its restaurant row and Open Street.<\/p>\n 282 Henry St., Apt. 9<\/a><\/p>\n \n This Brooklyn Heights one-bedroom, as seen in this listing photo, gets great light and sky views from the large window in the living area. It\u2019s a mild stretch to call this one-bedroom on Henry Street a \u201cpenthouse,\u201d although it is a top-floor apartment in a 19th-century, four-story brownstone co-op. The ceilings are high, and the living area is white-painted exposed brick that gets some great sky views and natural light from the oversize window. In the bedroom, you can fit a king-size mattress but little else. There\u2019s a windowed galley kitchen, with a fun checkered floor. The marble bathroom\u2019s been updated with all-white finishes and a Kohler soaking tub. The maintenance fees are what you\u2019d expect for Brooklyn Heights \u2014 $1,394 \u2014\u00a0and get you a bike room as well as in-building laundry and a shared roof-deck. Also, it\u2019s just a seven-minute walk to the Borough Hall station 2\/3 and killer Macouns from the nearby farmers\u2019 market at Columbus Park.\u00a0The Long Island Bar is right down the block for an after-work martini and fries.<\/p>\n 10 Park Ave., Apt. 16A<\/a><\/p>\n \n The oversize casement windows at this Park Avenue one-bedroom, as seen in this listing photo, are part of this apartment\u2019s prewar charm. This corner one-bedroom co-op on Park Avenue comes with massive casement windows and unobstructed views of the Empire State Building. Not bad! There are beamed ceilings and hardwood floors in the sunken living room, and a lot of white cabinetry and stone countertops in the renovated kitchen. It\u2019s dual exposures in the bedroom, which also has been set up with California closets. (There\u2019s not much about the bathroom, except that it\u2019s windowed.) The monthlies are $1,888, but that gets you a lot: a concierge, a full-time doorman, and live-in super, plus a bike room, package room and storage space, in-building laundry, and access to a shared roof terrace. The landmarked 26-story Art Deco building is just a couple of minutes from Koreatown and the Morgan Library and less than a ten-minute walk to Trader Joe\u2019s and Grand Central Terminal.<\/p>\n 1326 Madison Ave., Apt. 61A<\/a><\/p>\n \n This one-bedroom on Madison Avenue, as seen in this listing photo, leans into the chandelier life. Another prewar beauty, this one just a block from Central Park on upper Madison Avenue. The long gallery entry to this corner one-bedroom leads into the spacious living area with four oversize north- and east-facing windows and a pair of dueling chandeliers. The L-shaped kitchen is from Leicht and features a lot of stonework (Caesar, soap) plus nice stainless-steel appliances. Not only is the bedroom big enough for a king, it also has two walk-in closets, and the windowed bathroom\u2019s pretty spacious and comes with a soaking tub, too. The monthlies are $1,975, plus a $174.42 assessment through May 2027, which covers a live-in super, your own storage unit, and a bike room.
