Star Wars fans got their first look at \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d food cart with levitating droids serving sodas that could be heading to Galaxy\u2019s Edge at Disneyland later this year.<\/p>\n

Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development showcased the Star Wars food cart during the D23 fan expo<\/a> at the Anaheim Convention Center.<\/p>\n

The Hugo\u2019s Sweets and Fizz food pod<\/a> designed to entertain and interact with visitors could debut later this year at Disneyland, according to Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Imagineer Tony Dohi worked on the development of the Star Wars food pod with \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d filmmaker Jon Favreau and his production team.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were trying to do our best at recreating the food pod from the movie,\u201d Dohi said during a D23 media preview. \u201cWe\u2019re just showing what the experience could be and what the character elements are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hovering droids delivered Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite beverages in distinctive thermal detonator bottles using magnetic levitation at the replica of Hugo\u2019s food cart in \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu.\u201d<\/p>\n

The autonomous food delivery droid robots hovered on top of the food truck counter as if the surface were a stage.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In the simplest terms, Hugo\u2019s Sweets and Fizz worked like an elaborate soda machine with an Imagineering-produced show featuring audio-animatronics and droids.<\/p>\n

The soda bottles sat atop floating coasters that carried the drinks across the food truck counter and dropped them into a slot so customers could retrieve them below.<\/p>\n

The food delivery droids made noises as they worked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have their own little personalities, their own little language,\u201d Dohi said.<\/p>\n

Disneyland visitors will be able to order several types of soda using the Disneyland mobile app and pick up the drinks at Hugo\u2019s food cart in Galaxy\u2019s Edge, according to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

\u201cDepending on the exact order, characters behave a certain way and essentially put on a show at the food cart\u2019s counter,\u201d according to Bloomberg. \u201cIf the guest only buys one drink, for example, the robot might act lonely.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s an Ardennian,\u201d Dohi said of Hugo. \u201cThey have four arms, so it makes them very agile at operating as a chef in a little food pod.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hugo\u2019s food cart on the Star Wars planet Shakari serves a Flat Meat Fry sandwich made with pan-fried meat, queso sauce, electric blue onions and a hairy egg.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not getting a sandwich here,\u201d Dohi said of the food cart on display at D23. \u201cThis is going to be snacks and drinks.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the film, the Mandalorian orders a sandwich at the food cart and asks Hugo for information on Rotta the Hutt.<\/p>\n

A Grogu animatronic handled most of the drink and snack orders during the D23 demonstration. A Hugo animatronic lounged on the left side of the food truck at D23.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe can\u2019t make sandwiches because he\u2019s actually on break,\u201d Dohi said of Hugo. \u201cThat\u2019s why he\u2019s snoozing off to the side.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dohi led Imagineering\u2019s development of the Stuntronics<\/a> technology used in the flying Spider-Man show in Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure before shifting to the Star Wars food cart project.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is really a prototype,\u201d Dohi said of the Star Wars food cart. \u201cWe think there\u2019s something here.\u201d<\/p>\n
