We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"sc-1uza6dc-1 eRQajs\">Your support makes all the difference.<\/strong>Read more<\/p>\n<p>Sandra Bullock has said she feared developing \u201ca little bit of a mental issue\u201d if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/sandra-bullock-jennifer-aniston-hollywood-friendship-b2805902.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">she continued acting<\/a> while caring for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/bryan-randall-death-sandra-bullock-age-als-b2389268.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">her late partner Bryan Randall<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Randall, Bullock\u2019s partner of eight years, died in 2023 after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2020, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/als-disease-symptoms-eric-dane-death-greys-anatomy-b2924116.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">incurable nervous system disease<\/a> in which the brain gradually loses its connection with the muscles.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about his death on Monday\u2019s episode of the SmartLess podcast, Bullock admitted that she was concerned for her mental health while juggling filming the 2022 action movie The Lost City with caring for Randall and looking after her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/sandra-bullock-gesine-social-media-scam-facebook-video-b2692393.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">two children, Louis, 16, and Laila, 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Bryan got sick, after Lost City, I was like, \u2018I can&#8217;t.\u2019 I thought I was going to have a little bit of a mental issue. I could maybe manage four hours of the reshoot and they were like, \u2018Can you just give us [another take]?\u2019 I was like, \u2018I can&#8217;t, I can&#8217;t, I&#8217;ve got to go home.\u2019 And I went home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The star continued: \u201cThe amount of money they had to spend to fix my face to match the rest of the film digitally. It was a horror show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 62-year-old said she then decided to take a break from acting, adding: \u201cSo I did that and then I just pulled the plug. I said I can&#8217;t anymore. I have nothing to give right now. Nothing. Zero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Randall, a model-turned-photographer, met Bullock in 2015 after she hired him to photograph her son Louis\u2019 fifth birthday party. They were together for eight years.<\/p>\n<p>Bullock revealed that Randall had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/sandra-bullock-bryan-randall-als-relationship-b2389312.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">requested she keep his diagnosis private<\/a>, but she found it isolating not to talk to anyone about it apart from telling her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado.<\/p>\n<p>Bullock said she told herself, \u201cOh, I can handle that. I can be quiet.\u201d But caring for Randall while raising her two young children during the pandemic ultimately became \u201ca trifecta that was pretty dark,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started grieving Bryan four years before he passed. It was a traumatic diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy person left a lot earlier than the body left. I don\u2019t think I ever dealt with that until after he passed, because you\u2019re just on this treadmill,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Bullock gave further insight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/sandra-bullock-bryan-randall-ashes-b2473535.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">into the care that Bryan received<\/a>, sharing that she hired four male nurses to provide round-the-clock help for him, and hired a children\u2019s therapist specializing in dealing with terminal illness and grief to work with her kids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guys, they were like four big brothers in my kitchen and we became students at the same time,\u201d she said, explaining that she separated part of her house for Randall to receive his care, and that she required all visitors to take multiple Covid-19 tests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI found four men who were strong enough \u2013 Bryan was 6ft 2in,\u201d she explained of the nurses, adding that finding the right people while keeping Randall\u2019s diagnosis a secret was \u201cthe most covert CIA operation known to man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe understanding that I now have of caregiving\u2026 those who are in the caregiving position, I was left alone. I didn\u2019t know what to do; I didn\u2019t know who to call.
