Garcia, Fort Worth Report
August 24, 2026

A new $4.8 million Tom Thumb grocery store is planned for a booming northwest Fort Worth neighborhood.

Construction for the 59,951-square-foot store at 6250 W. Bailey Boswell Road is expected to begin in December and take about a year to complete, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Tom Thumb No. 4821 will anchor a three-building project called Boat Club Landing planned near the intersection of West Bailey Boswell and Boat Club roads, east of Eagle Mountain Lake. The project is spearheaded by Dallas-based developer Malouf Interests Inc., which has built retail centers across North Texas, including in Fort Worth.

The Boat Club Landing development includes two other retail buildings — each about 15,504 square feet — that are expected to cost about $2.2 million each, according to filings. Construction on those buildings is also expected to begin in December and be completed by winter 2027.

Steve Gregory, CEO of Malouf Interests, said Monday that an announcement about the store is expected in the fall but declined to elaborate.

The retail construction will coincide with $29 million in road improvements scheduled to begin on West Bailey Boswell Road in September. The improvements, part of the 2022 bond program, will convert the existing four-lane, undivided road into four 11-foot lanes separated by a 16-foot median. Turn lanes, streetlights and shared-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists, and landscaping are planned along the road from near Boat Club Road to Wind River Drive. Five new traffic signals will be added along that stretch of road, according to city documents.

“This (project will create) an undivided roadway where there have been at least two fatalities that we’re aware of, so that triggered looking at this corridor very seriously when we passed the 2022 bond program,” Raul Lopez, Fort Worth program manager for Thoroughfare Capital Projects, said during a June 23 public meeting at Lake Country Elementary School.

Phase 1 construction on the north side of Bailey Boswell is expected to begin Sept. 9, city plans show. Traffic will be shifted to the south side of the road in June 2027. The city expects construction to be completed by July 2028.

The expansion of Tom Thumb stores continues in North Texas where the grocer has three Fort Worth stores in operation. A new 63,000-square-foot store opened at 1046 Markey Way in Argyle earlier this year.

April Martin, a spokesperson for Albertsons Companies Inc., which owns Tom Thumb, said Monday that the company did not have any information to share at this time.

Eric E.
