Center City District<\/a> has announced the return of Open Streets: West Walnut, bringing seven consecutive Sundays of car-free streets, fun activities and more to Philly this fall.<\/p>\n

Kicking off Sept. 13 and running weekly through Oct. 25, this expanded season invites residents and visitors to make Open Streets part of their weekend routine all while supporting neighborhood restaurants, retailers, and businesses. Since launching in September 2024, the event has become quite a popular experience, attracting an average of more than 10,500 visitors each week. Businesses along the route have reported an average 59% increase in foot traffic<\/a> and a 37% increase in sales compared with a typical Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s nothing quite like watching Walnut Street fill with people instead of traffic,\u201d says CCD President and CEO Prema Katari Gupta. \u201cOpen Streets has become a real Center City tradition, and we\u2019re excited to welcome everyone back for seven more Sundays of strolling, shopping, and dining downtown.\u201d<\/p>\n

Throughout the season, Open Streets: West Walnut will offer a variety of live music and family-friendly activities, along with in-street seating pods where guests can relax. At the corner of 18th and Chestnut streets, the Fulton Fun Zone will feature rotating programming, including live broadcasts of Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> games, mini golf and seasonal activities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A few logistics to note: Open Streets will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with street closures in place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Walnut Street between Broad and 19th streets and 18th Street between Chestnut and Locust wtreets. Sansom, 15th, 16th, and 17th streets will remain open to vehicles. The pedestrian-only route expands public space for al fresco dining and sidewalk retail, plus some participating businesses may offer special promotions, in-store entertainment and other exclusive experiences. Food and beverages will also be available from restaurants located along the Open Streets route.<\/p>\n
