McGuff reports that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/news\/houston-texas\/article\/trevor-birchett-khou-11-22339289.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">new KHOU meteorologist Trevor Birchett<\/a>, who joined the station earlier this month, will handle weather most nights. Weekend evening anchor and investigative reporter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/news\/houston-texas\/article\/khou-trason-bragg-noon-anchor-22328660.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Cheryl Mercedes<\/a> will anchor Saturday and Sunday night newscasts on both stations.<\/p>\n<p>The Houston native graduated from Cypress Falls High School before earning his degree from Northwestern University&#8217;s\u00a0Medill School of Journalism.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming switch also comes amid a complicated ownership situation involving\u00a0KHOU parent company Tegna and Nexstar.<\/p>\n<p>Nexstar completed its acquisition of Tegna in March, but the deal is facing antitrust lawsuits from multiple state attorneys general and DirecTV. A preliminary injunction currently requires Tegna to operate autonomously under Nexstar ownership while the legal challenges play out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Chron reached out to KHOU 11 to confirm the move.
