News24.com.au Pulse \/ YouGov poll.<\/p>\n<p>Labor now sits on 29 per cent of the primary vote, up one point, while Pauline Hanson&#8217;s One Nation climbed two points to 26 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The Coalition fell one point to 21 per cent, leaving it five points behind One Nation, while the Greens were unchanged on 12 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The polling, conducted from August 18-24, comes after a difficult sitting period for the government, despite Labor securing several legislative wins.<\/p>\n<p>During the sitting fortnight, <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com.au\/politics\/australian-politics\/albanese-government-forced-to-scrap-widow-tax-after-coalition-negotiates-deal-on-ndis-reforms\/news-story\/3a4be7cdc7b27e0913aefb24b4c6f851\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Labor passed its NDIS reforms<\/a> with Coalition support, but was forced to cut a deal to urgently scrap its \u201cwidow\u2019s tax\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Labor<a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com.au\/politics\/australian-politics\/labor-signs-off-on-gambling-reform-deal-with-coalition-as-mps-prepare-for-vote-in-house-of-representatives\/news-story\/8c7b95b66d73a38a958f0281080b2fee\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0also passed its gambling advertising reforms<\/a>, although the legislation was criticised by the crossbench for not going far enough.<\/p>\n<p>However, these legislative wins were somewhat overshadowed by a series of political controversies.<\/p>\n<p>These included <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com.au\/politics\/australian-politics\/two-scandals-one-minister-defence-minister-richard-marles-provides-cover-for-keogh-and-gosling\/news-story\/10690c887ef4e38b94fabe25aa52f722\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Veterans&#8217; Affairs Minister Matt Keogh disrespecting a group of decorated veterans<\/a>, and Mr Albanese facing further fallout over his \u201cmelons\u201d comments.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com.au\/politics\/australian-politics\/man-up-prime-minister-anthony-albanese-urged-to-apologise-as-melons-comments-enter-swans-scandal\/news-story\/a7c9ae01f7fdff6270a3c176e0422a9c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">so-called \u201cmelongate\u201d controversy<\/a> has been a sticky political distraction for the Prime Minister, who refuses to admit he needs to apologise to Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The accumulation of scandals and political missteps has occurred as voters continue to identify cost of living as their dominant concern.<\/p>\n<p>The latest polling shows the cost of living remains the most important issue, followed by immigration, housing and the economy.<\/p>\n<p>The latest poll found Mr Albanese\u2019s satisfaction rating had fallen to a net -24, with just 35 per cent satisfied with his performance and 59 per cent dissatisfied.<\/p>\n<p>Opposition Leader Angus Taylor also recorded a negative rating, with 33 per cent satisfied and 49 per cent dissatisfied, resulting in a net -16.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his worsening satisfaction rating, Mr Albanese increased his lead as preferred prime minister over Mr Taylor, moving to 44 per cent compared with 37 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>He also led One Nation leader Pauline Hanson 52-37, increasing his advantage to 15 points.<\/p>\n<p>YouGov Director of Public Data Paul Smith said the result presented a combination of low satisfaction with Mr Albanese, but no appetite for his political rivals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn an election held now, Labor would easily win with the lowest election-winning primary vote ever,\u201d Mr Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnusually, dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister is rising while at the same time voters are increasing their preference for him as preferred PM.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlbanese\u2019s strength is that he is seen as more capable at running the country and more trustworthy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Pauline Hanson leads on being in touch with ordinary people, with a wider lead among working class voters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Labor led the Coalition 53-47 on a two-party preferred basis, and beat One Nation, with a result of 56-44.<\/p>\n<p>The News24.com.au Pulse \/ YouGov poll of 1510 voters was conducted online between August 18 and 24.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"One Nation has closed the gap to Labor to just three
