\n\tEXCLUSIVE<\/strong>: Dan Stevens<\/a> is armoring up to play an iconic sci-fi character, the titular hero in Prime Video<\/a>\u2018s upcoming RoboCop<\/a> series. Stevens has been tapped to star as Alex Murphy and his cyborg alter ego in the show based from showrunner Peter Ocko and\u00a0Blumhouse Atomic Monster based on the MGM movie franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\tStevens\u2019 casting comes a month after\u00a0Amazon MGM Studios\u00a0officially greenlighted the series<\/a>, which had been in the works for a couple of years. Stevens quickly emerged as the leading candidate for the role, played in the original Paul Verhoeven film by Peter Weller.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the eight-episode\u00a0Robocop series, written by Ocko,\u00a0a giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force \u2013 a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer, Alex Murphy (Stevens).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPeter Ocko has crafted a vision that honors the soul of what made the original so enduring while building something entirely fresh and urgent for today,\u201d Amazon MGM Studios\u2019 Head of Global TV Peter Friedlander said at the time of the pickup about the series, which takes a contemporary look at the questions the original 1987 movie raised \u201cabout technology, identity, and who corporations really serve,\u201d as James Wan put it at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\tOcko, who serves as showrunner, executive produces alongside Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett\u00a0through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with co-executive producer Danielle Bozzone overseeing the series on behalf of the company. Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, co-writers of the original RoboCop\u00a0film, will also serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 1987 movie was followed by two sequels, RoboCop 2 in 1990 and RoboCop 3 in 1993, and the 2014 remake of the 1987 film. Weller played the title role in the first two films, with Robert Burke taking over the role in RoboCop 3 and Joel Kinnaman in the 2014 reboot.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs Deadline\u00a0reported in April 2023<\/a>,\u00a0RoboCop\u00a0was among the first batch of MGM titles identified for series development following Amazon\u2019s 2022 acquisition of the studio.<\/p>\n

\n\tRoboCop extends Stevens\u2019 relationship with Amazon MGM Studios after recently wrapping production on a series adaptation of John le Carr\u00e9\u2019s Legacy Of Spies for the studio\u2019s platform MGM+ and BBC. <\/p>\n

\n\tCurrently, he is in production on the second season of Paramount+\u2019s Dexter: Resurrection, in which he will play Owen Stark aka the Five Borough Killer. He can also be seen starring in the horror limited anthology series, The Terror: The Devil In Silver, which debuted on AMC+ and Shudder this spring and will have its linear release on AMC in September.<\/p>\n

\n\tComing up, Stevens will reunite for a third time with director Adam Wingard for the film Onslaught, which will be released by A24 on September 4. He will also appear in the movie Babies, directed by Lauren Miller Rogan, which will have its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, and will reprise his role as Trapper in Godzilla x King: Supernova, set for a 2027 release.<\/p>\n

\n\tStevens, whose series credits also include Netflix\u2019s Zero Day opposite Robert De Niro, ITV\/Masterpiece\u2019s Downton Abbey, and the Hulu animated comedy Solar Opposites, lent his voice to the Oscar-winning animated film, The Boy and the Heron.
