GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 What started as a father-son bonding experience turned into a thriving charity to help Valley drivers who may not be able to afford a mechanic shop.<\/p>\n
Michael Kuba founded \u201cThe Junkie Garage\u201d<\/a> in Glendale nearly 10 years ago, after he was faced with a financial dilemma and learned to repair his family\u2019s vehicle himself.<\/p>\n The nonprofit is his way to help other families in similar situations, offering free or low-cost repairs for veterans, single parents, seniors, and working-class families.<\/p>\n \u201cWe try to help out everyone we can for the absolute cheapest price that we can,\u201d Kuba said.<\/p>\n As a kid, Kuba shadowed his father fixing cars, but never imagined helping others on this scale.<\/p>\n Now, he\u2019s getting help from his own son, Matthew.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s so amazing to have the opportunity to help people like that. It helps people out so much, and they\u2019re just so excited after,\u201d said Matthew, who\u2019s been assisting his dad since he was 10.<\/p>\n Kuba and his son in Glendale are doing Something Good<\/a> by fixing donated vehicles for free and giving them to those in need. The Junkie Garage plans to raffle off a car after they\u2019re done repairing it.
