Derick Garcia announced Monday that he completed his first day as executive reporter for ENOUGH, KPRC 2’s upcoming program<\/a> focused on investigative reporting, community issues and holding public and government systems accountable.<\/p>\n

“The role takes me away from being on camera, but it gives me an opportunity to pursue a new passion,” Garcia wrote on social media. “I\u2019ll be sharing the incredible work the ENOUGH team produces with one goal: to help Houstonians.”<\/p>\n

He first joined CBS4 in 2016 as a reporter before moving to the morning anchor desk<\/a>. In 2022, he shifted into investigative reporting and added evening anchor duties the following year. Garcia signed off from the station in July.<\/p>\n

His ties to the station stretched back even further. Before appearing on camera, Garcia worked behind the scenes as a producer at CBS4 in\u00a0Harlingen. He later produced newscasts for Time Warner Cable News, now Spectrum News, in Austin<\/a> before returning to the Rio Grande Valley<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Garcia is a two-time Texas Association of Broadcasters Best Reporter recipient, an Edward R.\u00a0Murrow Award winner for Best Documentary and an Emmy-nominated investigative reporter. He graduated from Texas State University<\/a> with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a minor in mass communications. Before college, he served four years in the U.S. Navy.<\/p>\n

Garcia’s arrival comes weeks before\u00a0KPRC 2<\/a> launches ENOUGH at 10 p.m. Sept. 13. The station says the program represents a new commitment to accountability journalism, with a focus on digging into issues affecting Houstonians and pressing for answers about what is and isn’t working.<\/p>\n

KPRC has been promoting the project since April and is devoting more than 20 staffers to the ENOUGH team, according to a recruitment video featuring news director Ana Lastra and reporters Amy Davis, Joel Eisenbaum<\/a>, Rilwan Balogun and anchor Stephania Jimenez.<\/a><\/p>\n

Jimenez stepped away from regularly anchoring the 10 p.m. newscast earlier this summer to spend more time reporting for the new program.
