SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 If you paid rent within the last seven years, you may be eligible for a settlement check in a class action lawsuit accusing rental companies of inflating rent prices.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit was filed against about 40 rental property owners and management companies, as well as RealPage Inc., a property management software company that offers pricing tools.<\/p>\n

A number of the rental property owners and management companies named in the lawsuit operate or have operated in San Antonio.<\/p>\n

The case is now in the settlement phase.<\/p>\n

Plaintiffs and all settling defendants have agreed to a proposed $359,925,000 settlement, but a judge must give their final approval before any money can be disbursed. The settlement amount and when checks could be issued have not been determined.<\/p>\n

All settling defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing, and the court did not rule the allegations true or false.<\/p>\n

How to find out if you are eligible<\/p>\n

While settlement approval is pending, renters across the country who believe they may have been affected can find out if they are eligible for a settlement check.<\/p>\n

The court authorized the creation of an official settlement website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Go to the tab labeled \u201cProperty List\u201d and enter the information for all rental addresses where you lived and see if the apartments or rentals are a part of the proposed settlement.<\/p>\n

If the information confirms the rental property was affected, the next eligibility requirement is that you paid rent at that location at some time between Oct. 18, 2018, and Nov. 21, 2025.<\/p>\n

You will also need proof, such as a lease agreement, receipts or bank statements, to prove you paid rent.<\/p>\n

Even though the proposed multimillion-dollar settlement has been approved, the deadline to file a claim is 11:59 p.m. EST on Jan. 29, 2027.<\/p>\n
