Many involved with GameDay were informed of the news earlier this month.

Matthew Garrett, a vice president of production at ESPN, is expected to take over as executive producer of GameDay.

Gaiero’s role at ESPN is expected to shift to help deepen the network’s college football event producer bench. He’s also expected to take a significant role on ESPN’s production prep for the network’s Super Bowl in February, where he’ll contribute to pregame studio programming.

Gaiero has been with ESPN for over 30 years, joining the network in 1995. In addition to his GameDay role, Gaiero produces college football and basketball games for ESPN, along with NBA Draft and PGA Championship coverage. Previously, Gaiero was a lead producer on ESPN’s NASCAR coverage until the network lost rights to the motorsport in 2014.

In addition to his added Super Bowl responsibilities, Gaiero is expected to play an important role in ESPN’s golf strategy around the Masters and PGA Championship, where he’ll work hand-in-hand with executive vice president Mike McQuade in 2027 before assuming full production responsibilities in 2028.

GameDay has undergone shifting in its production ranks in recent years. Three years ago, ESPN cut ties with longtime production executive Lee Fitting, who oversaw College GameDay as well as Monday Night Football. Fitting was replaced by Amanda Gifford, who now oversees ESPN’s college football production.

The move comes at a time of change on-air for GameDay as well. Last year marked the first season without legendary panelist Lee Corso, who retired after Week 1 of the season. Meanwhile, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban have settled in to starring roles on the show alongside host Rece Davis and analysts Desmond Howard and Kirk Herbstreit.

College GameDay will hold its first show of the season on Sept. 5 live from Baton Rouge for Clemson-LSU.

One of the lead producers of ESPN’s flagship college football program, College GameDay, has been taken off the…

[43
188348,22239,1318,410440,1317,1315,1316,62,67,132,68
post-1026033","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ncaa-football","tag-cfb-on-espn","tag-college-gameday","tag-football","tag-jim-gaiero","tag-ncaa","tag-ncaa-football","tag-ncaafootball","tag-sports","tag-united-states","tag-unitedstates","tag-us
["GET
