With the anticipated departure of Kawhi Leonard, he was slated to see an increased role in 2026-27.<\/p>\n<p>Miller, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2026\/07\/03\/jordan-miller-stays-with-clippers-on-3-year-15-3-million-deal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed a three-year, $15.3 million deal<\/a> to stay with the Clippers in early July, however, was facing significant competition for minutes after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2026\/08\/19\/clippers-get-max-strus-in-multi-team-deal-that-sends-peyton-watson-to-cleveland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Clippers acquired Max Strus from the Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> in a five-team trade. Strus, a proven quality shooter, joined an already crowded field at the wing position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to be a highly competitive team this season and Max will be a big part of it. He is a great shooter with a good feel who can handle and pass,\u201d Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said last week.<\/p>\n<p>Miller was viewed as someone who could step in if injuries hit, but will now move to the back of the pack.<\/p>\n<p>MATHURIN MOVES ON<\/p>\n<p>Bennedict Mathurin, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2026\/02\/05\/clippers-trade-ivica-zubac-to-the-indiana-pacers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">joined the Clippers at last season\u2019s trade deadline<\/a>, has agreed to a two-year, $16 million deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, including a player option, according to ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>Shams Charania reported that Mathurin\u2019s representatives approached the Clippers about withdrawing his $8.8M qualifying offer, but details remain murky.<\/p>\n<p>Mathurin reportedly wanted a path to unrestricted free agency next summer over a long-term deal for bigger money but greater team control.<\/p>\n<p>NBA insider Jake Fischer said although the Clippers had not yet withdrawn their qualifying offer, the team appears willing to work with the player and the Pelicans.<\/p>\n<p>Mathurin, Isaiah Jackson, two first-round picks and a second-round pick were sent to the Clippers in exchange for Ivica Zubac and Kobe Brown.
