The Bard didn\u2019t leave explicit directions beyond single words like \u201cdraw\u201d and \u201chit\u201d revealed in dialogue. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2023\/04\/27\/dallas-theater-group-tells-story-of-enslaved-africans-who-created-capoeira-fighting-style\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prism Movement Theater<\/a>, whose artistic director Jeffrey Colangelo works as a fight coordinator, is putting on an educational show to explain and demonstrate how theaters\u00a0come up with solutions to this problem.<\/p>\n<p>Using text analysis, anthropology and historical research,\u00a0They Fight will address the audience on how fight coordinators design the famous scenes of violence in dramas like\u00a0Romeo and Juliet\u00a0and\u00a0Hamlet\u00a0while also enacting the legendary sword play between Mercutio and Tybalt, Hamlet and Laertes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can&#8217;t tell you how many passionate discussions I&#8217;ve had with fight directors about the fighting styles of Tybalt and Mercutio, how Tybalt&#8217;s \u2018immortal passado\u2019 would be staged during Shakespeare&#8217;s time, what the \u2018Italian fencing style\u2019 looked like on an English stage,\u201d Colangelo says. \u201cAll wildly different interpretations, but all from a very careful reading of the text, careful research and the application of the historical, cultural and technological developments of the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd that&#8217;s not to mention the story beats you still have to tell within the fight.
