JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 A peaceful tribute at a Jacksonville intersection Wednesday brought together community members, survivors, and grieving family members to honor three people killed in a racially motivated shooting three years ago.<\/p>\n

Angela Carr, 52, Jerrald Gallion, 29, and A.J. Laguerre Jr., 19, were murdered by a gunman at a Kings Road Dollar General store on August 26, 2023. <\/p>\n

Laguerre was working at the store that day. <\/p>\n

Gallion was shopping. <\/p>\n

Carr was waiting in her car outside. <\/p>\n

Investigators determined the attack was racially motivated.<\/p>\n

\u2018No one should lose their lives because of racism\u2019<\/p>\n

Jacksonville City Councilwoman Ju\u2019Coby Pittman organized this year\u2019s annual commemoration. At the event, she reflected on the weight of the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday is a sad day,\u201d Pittman said. \u201cNo one should lose their lives because of racism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pittman said she plans to continue organizing the annual event because of what it means to the victims\u2019 families and to survivors who were inside the store during the shooting. She noted that some survivors had planned to attend Wednesday but called her the morning of the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s emotional when I talk about these families,\u201d Pittman said. \u201cSome of the survivors had planned on coming today. And I got three calls today saying \u2026 go to the doctor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018We can celebrate the life he had\u2019<\/p>\n

Michelle Norris attended the event to represent her family and honor her cousin, Jerrald Gallion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m here representing my cousin, Jerrald Gallion,\u201d Norris said. \u201cHe was my little cousin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Norris said the pain of losing Gallion stays with her, but she is grateful for the annual gathering.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt brings us all together as a family so we can celebrate the life he had instead of dwelling on the tragedy that happened,\u201d Norris said.<\/p>\n

The tribute included singing, with attendees joining together in the gospel song \u201cNobody Greater.\u201d<\/p>\n
