Every night from Friday, August 28, through Monday, all eastbound lanes of Loop 1604 and both directions of Interstate 10 will be closed at the busy intersection. These massive closures are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. each day and end by 5 a.m. the following morning.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a highway headache familiar to those regularly traveling the Far Northside of San Antonio, whether heading to the mall or grabbing a late dinner in the booming commercial region anchoring the city\u2019s northern end. While most retail shops close by 9 p.m., the area is also a dining and nightlife destination for a large cohort of San Antonio patrons.<\/p>\n
With these closures, coupled with the missing on-ramp at La Cantera Parkway and construction hurdles that plague the Loop 1604 and I-10 underpass, late-night travelers may want to plan an alternate route or consider another destination altogether.<\/p>\n
But TxDOT vows this is all for the sake of progress and future-proofing one of the state\u2019s largest and most congested loops. For about a year, sky-high flyover ramps connecting highway changeovers directly have served as a soaring sign of what\u2019s to come.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s one of the most congested corridors in the state,\u201d TxDOT Public Information Officer Jennifer Serold previously told MySA. \u201cOver the next 20 to 25 years, the amount of daily drivers is expected to double. So, this expansion project is to prepare for future growth but also to give benefits to drivers in the next few years \u2026 It\u2019s bringing a lot of congestion relief to drivers by giving them more lanes to travel on.
