\u201cHe\u2019s at his best when he\u2019s filling up the strike zone, getting ahead in the count. It\u2019s not some secret sauce recipe,\u201d Green said. \u201cHis stuff has always been really, really good. When he\u2019s got velo, when he fills up the strike zone, he\u2019s good and he\u2019s done that more consistently recently. So we\u2019re encouraged by that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Mets hope Tong is a part of their future, while the 36-year-old Stock is merely a placeholder, and one with a 7.40 ERA. In five starts, he has failed to record an out in the sixth inning. Stock has been noncompetitive in two of those starts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tong, 23, has yet to find himself at the big league level, failing to reach expectations as a top prospect. In five starts last year, Tong pitched to a 7.71 ERA. <\/p>\n
He was better in three starts this season, notching a 3.60 ERA, but only logged a combined 10 innings and registered a sky-high 1.50 WHIP.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a perfect world, Tong continues to perform for Syracuse and earns a promotion to make a few September starts for the playing-out-the-string Mets. A few quality outings at the big league level could be significant for him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
