{"id":1029100,"date":"2026-08-28T08:04:26","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T08:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1029100\/"},"modified":"2026-08-28T08:04:26","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T08:04:26","slug":"trump-not-expected-at-ground-zero-on-9-11-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1029100\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump not expected at Ground Zero on 9\/11 anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Trump plans to commemorate the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/26\/us-news\/9-11-mastermind-ksm-will-finally-stand-trial-judge-says\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">25th anniversary of the 9\/11 terrorist attacks<\/a> at the Pentagon next month, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is not expected to attend the Manhattan memorial service held annually at Ground Zero, the site of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/24\/us-news\/remains-of-tragic-9-11-victim-finally-idd-thanks-to-breakthrough-forensics-method\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">World Trade Center<\/a> towers that were brought down by the two hijacked airplanes, according to a source familiar.<\/p>\n<p>The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump isn\u2019t expected to be in New York City on the 25th anniversary of 9\/11 next month. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Trump had been expected to be part of the Ground Zero ceremony as recently as Aug. 14, sources said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear why the president\u2019s plans changed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The anniversary of the attacks that killed 2,977 people falls on the day after the conclusion of the Republican Party\u2019s two-day midterm convention in Dallas, which Trump plans to attend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The president is also<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-ireland-golf-course-irish-open-481a6c45bd7bf7c97ccbcbd5dcbf65d9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> scheduled to be in Ireland<\/a> on Sept. 12 and 13, where he will meet with US embassy workers and business leaders before attending the Irish Open golf tournament at his course in Doonbeg.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/08\/27\/us\/politics\/trump-911-pentagon-ground-zero.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported that<\/a> part of the reason Trump opted against going to Manhattan to mark 9\/11 is because organizers of the ceremony refused to allow him to deliver remarks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Post has learned that the commander-in-chief will instead plan to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9\/11 terrorist attacks at the Pentagon next month. PA Images via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Vice President JD Vance is expected to attend the New York City ceremony, according to the outlet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since 2012, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/12\/us-news\/9-11-memorial-museum-adding-7th-moment-of-silence-to-program\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the National September 11 Memorial and Museum<\/a> has barred politicians from giving speeches at Ground Zero.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The New York City ceremony will include six moments of silence to solemnly commemorate the key times of the attacks, including when both World Trade Center towers were struck and fell, and the times of the attack on the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Family members will then read the names of the fallen loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the 9\/11 Memorial and Museum did not address Trump\u2019s plans but said the president is \u201calways welcome\u201d at the ceremony.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor more than a decade, the ceremony at Ground Zero has featured only family members solemnly reading the names of their loved ones. Elected officials of both parties have borne witness to this solemn occasion over the years, and we have been honored that every living President, including President Trump, has attended.
