The federal holiday grew out of the late 19th century American labor movement, when many workers pushed for better wages and working hours and safer work conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Some businesses and local government offices may be closed for the holiday. Here\u2019s what to know.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most grocery stores, including <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.heb.com\/holiday-hours-at-heb\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">H-E-B<\/a>, Walmart and <a href=\"https:\/\/help.samsclub.com\/app\/answers\/detail\/a_id\/171\/~\/sams-club-hours\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Sam\u2019s Club<\/a>, are expected to be open on Labor Day, according to their respective websites. Hours may vary by location.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/customerservice.costco.com\/app\/answers\/answer_view\/a_id\/701\/~\/what-are-costco%E2%80%99s-holiday-closures%3F\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Costco<\/a> will be closed for Labor Day, according to its website.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Postal Service will be closed in observance of the federal holiday. All post office locations will be closed, and regular mail delivery and shopping services will return Sept. 8.<\/p>\n<p>Some Dallas city offices and facilities will be closed Sept. 7, including Dallas Public Library locations and Dallas Municipal Court.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortworthtexas.gov\/files\/assets\/public\/v\/3\/environmental-services\/solid-waste\/documents\/envd-solid-waste-holiday-schedule-2026-ada.pdf\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Fort Worth<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dallascityhall.com\/departments\/sanitation\/pages\/residential_garbage_collection.aspx\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Dallas<\/a> residents will have no change to their garbage and recycling pickup schedule.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlingtontx.gov\/City-Services\/Garbage-Recycling\/Garbage-Recycling-Info\/Residential-Curbside-Collections\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Arlington<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.friscotexas.gov\/m\/newsflash\/home\/detail\/2683\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Frisco<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinneytexas.org\/1361\/Holiday-Closures\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">McKinney<\/a> residents will not have trash collection on Labor Day.
