This follows overnight power outages that forced at least one school district in the area to cancel classes.<\/p>\n<p>Several cities are at risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service (<a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?textField1=29.708877&amp;textField2=-98.045857\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">NWS<\/a>). In particular, weather radar shows them forming over Rocksprings, near Austin, and east of the Alamo City.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Any of the stronger storms will be capable of producing strong winds and locally heavy downpours,&#8221; the agency said on its website.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasts indicate a 30% chance the activity will begin around 4 p.m. and persist intermittently through the evening. It may provide some relief amid the triple-digit heat, as the NWS says temperatures will reach the mid-90s to near 103 degrees. Meteorologists <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=ewx&amp;issuedby=ewx&amp;product=afd&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">warn<\/a> that with increased moisture, some heat index values will surpass this mark, &#8220;with a few locations possibly exceeding Heat Advisory criteria.&#8221; That means <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/glossary.php?word=Heat%20Advisory\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">conditions are dangerous<\/a> but do not meet the criteria for an alert to be issued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Severe storms <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local\/article\/school-closures-san-antonio-weather-22407462.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">disrupted activities at Somerset ISD<\/a> campuses on Friday, prompting representatives to cancel classes to ensure student and staff safety. All district events and activities scheduled for the morning were halted, and the status of afternoon events remains unclear.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?textField1=29.708877&amp;textField2=-98.045857\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">recent data<\/a> from the NWS&#8217;s seven-day forecast shows that only sunny, clear skies are expected through most of next week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Another round of intense storms could hit the San Antonio region on Friday, August 28.
