{"id":1030610,"date":"2026-08-29T08:55:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T08:55:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1030610\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T08:55:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T08:55:22","slug":"former-acting-u-s-attorney-died-by-suicide-inside-san-diego-federal-building-coroner-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1030610\/","title":{"rendered":"Former acting U.S. attorney died by suicide inside San Diego federal building, coroner says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The former acting assistant U.S. attorney whose body was found last week in a San Diego federal building died by suicide, the San Diego County medical examiner\u2019s office said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Haden, 48, was <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2026-08-20\/former-acting-u-s-attorney-found-dead-inside-federal-building-in-san-diego\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">found dead in an office<\/a> inside the Edward J. Schwartz federal building on Aug. 19 shortly after being reported missing.<\/p>\n<p>The medical examiner confirmed today that the cause of death was hanging and the manner of death was suicide.<\/p>\n<p>Haden was a veteran prosecutor who held several leadership roles during his career, including that of first assistant attorney general for the Southern District, which is the second-in-command role. He also served as chief of the Violent Crimes &amp; Human Trafficking Section and of the Criminal Division.<\/p>\n<p>Haden was raised in San Diego and graduated from University City High before obtaining his bachelor\u2019s degree in political science from Stanford University.<\/p>\n<p>He then served five years in the Navy and completed two overseas deployments <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nita.org\/s\/nita-program-staff\/a0SUm000000muuLMAQ\/andrew-haden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">in support of<\/a> Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Joint Task Force Liberia.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving the military, he went to law school at the University of San Diego and served as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Thomas J. Whelan in the Southern District of California.<\/p>\n<p>Haden received multiple accolades during his legal career, including the Director\u2019s Award for Superior Performance in a Managerial or Supervisory Role from the Executive Office for United States Attorneys in 2020 and the Peter J.
