Westbound lanes of Venice Boulevard near the Los Angeles Convention Center will be closed during daytime hours for nine days beginning Monday as part of the convention center\u2019s $2.6 billion expansion and modernization project, city officials announced Friday.<\/p>\n
The westbound lanes will be closed between the Harbor (110) Freeway\/Convention Center Drive and Figueroa Street from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and again Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday, Sept. 11, according to the Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering.<\/p>\n
One eastbound lane will remain open during the work.<\/p>\n
The closure is necessary for crews to install underground duct banks for a power circuit serving a new network station at the convention center. The station will manage electrical power distribution throughout the facility, officials said.<\/p>\n
Westbound motorists will be detoured north on Figueroa Street, west on Olympic Boulevard and south on Union Avenue before reconnecting with westbound Venice Boulevard.<\/p>\n
The work is part of the Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion and Modernization Project, which broke ground Oct. 1, 2025.<\/p>\n
The project will connect the existing South and West Exhibit Halls over Pico Boulevard and add 190,000 square feet of exhibit space, creating a contiguous exhibit hall of more than 750,000 square feet.<\/p>\n
Plans also call for 39,000 square feet of new meeting room space and 98,000 square feet of multipurpose space.<\/p>\n
City officials said the project is expected to create more than 15,000 jobs and generate $652 million in General Fund tax revenue over 30 years and more than $150 million in additional visitor spending annually.<\/p>\n
