{"id":10309,"date":"2025-06-24T08:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T08:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/10309\/"},"modified":"2025-06-24T08:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T08:54:09","slug":"rangers-reach-two-year-contract-extension-with-adam-edstrom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/10309\/","title":{"rendered":"Rangers reach two-year contract extension with Adam Edstrom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Rangers signed Adam Edstrom to a two-year contract extension on Monday, the team announced.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carrying an average annual value of $975,000, the deal is valued and structured the same way as the one Edstrom\u2019s usual linemate, Matt Rempe, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/18\/sports\/where-rangers-salary-cap-situation-stands-after-matt-rempe-signing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed last week<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The two deals took care of a couple of key pending restricted free agents relatively early in the offseason, with Will Cuylle, Zac Jones and K\u2019Andre Miller all still in need of new deals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Edstrom\u2019s first season making the team out of training camp was derailed by a lower-body injury that sidelined him for the final 31 games of the 2024-25 campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The undisclosed injury, which occurred Feb. 1 in Boston, required surgery. JASON SZENES FOR THE NEW YORK POST<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt took some time,\u201d Edstrom said of his injury during the team\u2019s breakup day. \u201cBut the help I\u2019ve gotten here, it\u2019s been great. The more time went on, kind of shifted my focus into getting ready for next season and coming back in great shape.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 6-foot-7 forward was just starting to hit his stride at the NHL level when he sustained his season-ending injury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After appearing in just two games during the 2023-24 season, Edstrom earned his spot in the opening night lineup and firmly held onto it until the injury. <\/p>\n<p>He primarily skated on the fourth line, but also earned a handful of looks on the wing of the third unit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.31282051;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36327855\" width=\"775\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/84-new-york-rangers-moves-94907572.jpg\" alt=\"Adam Edstrom\" class=\"wp-image-36327855\"  \/>Adam Edstrom Robert Sabo for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>In 51 games, Edstrom posted five goals, including two game-winners, and four assists while averaging 9:16 of ice time per game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His line with Rempe and Sam Carrick put up strong numbers during five-on-five play, outscoring opponents 4-0 and out-chancing them 31-28 in their 76:55 of ice time together, according to Natural Stat Trick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tough,\u201d the Swede said. \u201cI felt like we really got going there at the end, me, Remps and Carrick. We found something really good. It\u2019s always tough to miss time, but it\u2019s one of those things that happens.
