Pauline Hanson and Barnaby Joyce have begun a three-day Victorian tour as One Nation steps up its campaign for the November state election.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The pair arrived in Victoria on Saturday and headed straight into the regions, where the party is seeking support from farmers affected by major renewable energy projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Victorian One Nation leader Warren Pickering is using the tour to put energy and farming at the centre of the party\u2019s campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The party is also preparing to announce four new candidates across western Victoria as it expands its challenge to Labor, the\u00a0Nationals\u00a0and the Liberals.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Senator Hanson was due to appear at the Farmers Fight Back rally at\u00a0Marnoo\u00a0on Saturday evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Before the event, she and Mr Joyce met with landowners whose properties are set to be\u00a0acquired\u00a0for transmission projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The party has pledged to scrap the Western Renewables Link and VNI West projects if it wins government.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Pickering is also expected to target renewable energy zones\u00a0established\u00a0under former Victorian premier Jacinta Allan.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One Nation wants to abandon subsidies for renewable infrastructure, including solar, wind and battery projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The policy would put the party directly against Labor\u2019s energy transition and the renewable projects planned across regional Victoria.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Pickering said the party was focused on\u00a0representing\u00a0farmers and the broader food and fibre sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s thoroughly excited to engage with landowners on these issues, which she has brought up frequently in the Senate chamber,\u201d Mr Pickering told the Herald Sun on Saturday afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not necessarily out here targeting individuals who would usually vote for the Nationals; we are advocating for the needs of our food and fibre industry, and if people choose to join One Nation through those efforts, that\u2019s their democratic right.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The party will face questions over how it would\u00a0maintain\u00a0Victoria\u2019s electricity supply if it abandoned major renewable projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Yallourn Power Station is due to close in mid-2028, leaving a significant gap in the state\u2019s generation capacity.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Pickering said the party would reveal more about its energy plans when Senator Hanson and the Victorian team visit Yallourn on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe heavily intend to lean back into the energy resources that made us such an abundant country,\u201d\u00a0he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere will be more on that at Yallourn on Monday.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The tour will also be used to introduce One Nation\u2019s latest candidates.\u00a0<\/p>\n
They include primary school teacher turned speech pathologist Donna Buxton, who\u00a0will contest Ripon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ms Buxton was born and raised in\u00a0Traralgon\u00a0and said cost of living, healthcare and access to essential services would be central to her campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Stuart Robinson, a retired property and business manager, will contest\u00a0Wendouree.\u00a0<\/p>\n
His father, a Second World War veteran, helped lead the campaign against Victoria\u2019s Emergency Services and Volunteer Fund tax.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Robinson said his involvement in that campaign had shaped his view of the state government.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis campaign has given me a real insight into how deceptive and allusive the current Victorian Labor government is,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have little regard for the taxes they raise from hardworking\u00a0Victorians\u00a0and this disrespect has to stop.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Paul Ballinger will contest Eureka, south-east of Ballarat.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Ballarat local has worked in finance, as a carpenter, construction\u00a0supervisor\u00a0and small-business owner.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said he wanted to address cost-of-living pressures, road\u00a0conditions\u00a0and community safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Former Bendigo councillor Vaughan Williams will also run for One Nation in the Western Victoria upper house region.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Williams unsuccessfully contested the federal seat of Mallee last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Senator Hanson is due to spend Sunday meeting supporters in Melbourne, including at Pakenham.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The party expects its Melbourne events to attract protesters and has put security arrangements in place.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The three-day tour is designed to build support by taking Senator Hanson and Mr Joyce into regional communities, while putting the party\u2019s candidates and policies directly in front of voters.\u00a0<\/p>\n
