{"id":1031018,"date":"2026-08-29T13:31:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T13:31:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1031018\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T13:31:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T13:31:21","slug":"nyc-girl-scouts-boss-tried-to-get-pregnant-employee-fired-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1031018\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Girl Scouts boss tried to get pregnant employee fired: lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A New York City-based <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/11\/business\/girl-scouts-sued-over-alleged-heavy-metals-pesticides-in-cookies\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Girl Scouts of the USA <\/a>employee is suing the organization and her female boss whom she claims tried to bully her out of her job after she learned she was pregnant.<\/p>\n<p>Munirah Samuel, 33, started working for the<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/12\/27\/girl-scouts-accuse-boy-scouts-of-poaching-new-recruits\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> nonprofit best known for its wildly popular cookies <\/a>as a customer experience analyst in November 2025. She still remains employed there.<\/p>\n<p>She met with her supervisor, Catherine Contrera, once a week and received glowing feedback about her work performance from her hiring until February 2026, she alleged in the Aug. 25 filing in Manhattan Supreme Court.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Munirah Samuel is suing GSUSA and her boss Catherine Contrera for allegedly being treated with hostility because she was pregnant.  LinkedIn<\/p>\n<p>Contrera, a senior manager of customer service experience, even acted excited when Samuel announced she was pregnant in February.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cContrera\u2019s initial reaction was congratulatory and enthusiastic,\u201d Samuel claimed in the lawsuit, adding that Contrera said she \u201cwanted to keep her\u201d and hoped she\u2019d return after maternity leave.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the Bronx-based supervisor \u201cabruptly\u201d changed her tune at Samuel\u2019s midyear review in April.\u00a0There were no signs of dissatisfaction during Samuel\u2019s weekly check-ins, she claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Contrera \u201cfor the first time\u201d said she wasn\u2019t happy with Samuel\u2019s performance \u2013 accusing her of falling behind even though her work proved that she was performing above expectations, the suit claims. <\/p>\n<p>Samuel works at GSUSA as a customer service experience analyst.  jetcityimage \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>One of Contrera\u2019s alleged gripes with Samuel was that she was working too slowly. But Samuel contends that her work-performance statistics showed she was resolving her customer service cases within 20 to 30 minutes, far below the standardized six hours employees were allotted to complete them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When Samuel, who works remotely from her Brooklyn home, tried defending herself, Contrera allegedly slammed her as \u201ccombative.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sudden emergence of these manufactured concerns \u2014 immediately after [Samuel]\u2019s pregnancy became known \u2014 reflects Contrera\u2019s discriminatory animus,\u201d the filing reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Erica Hybarger allegedly admitted that Contrera was being \u201cnit-picky\u201d with Samuel.  LinkedIn<\/p>\n<p>In the weeks that followed, Contrera allegedly scrutinized Samuel over minor mistakes and berated her for using work methods she had previously been instructed to use. Other employees engaging in the same practices weren\u2019t treated this way, Samuel claimed. <\/p>\n<p>Contrera allegedly asked Samuel in June when she planned <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/30\/health\/longer-maternity-leave-linked-to-one-very-unhealthy-habit\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on taking maternity leave<\/a>.
