The event aimed to honor Diaz’s memory and urge anyone with information to come forward.

Bear was 20 years old when he vanished on August 29, 2015. For his mother, LeLanie Thompson, the passage of over a decade has not dulled the pain of his absence, though it has brought a heartbreaking shift in perspective.

“I think in my heart I’ve accepted he’s not coming back,” Thompson shared during the memorial, which was filled with emotional songs and prayers.

The day he disappeared, Thompson had planned to visit her son to change his medical bandages and share lunch. Instead, she arrived to find him gone. His phone and a backpack were also missing from the home.

“I didn’t think anything horrible had happened,” Thompson recalled. “But here we are 11 years later, and that’s about all you can think of now.”

Those close to Diaz describe him as a young man with a big heart who was facing severe health challenges at the time of his disappearance. He was also living with Type 1 diabetes and neuropathy, which left him with sores on his feet and dependent on a wheelchair for mobility.

Because of his physical limitations, the family remains consumed by questions regarding how he left the property and who was with him.

Diaz and his family are members of the Barona Band of Mission Indians. The remembrance event highlighted the broader, systemic issue of Indigenous people going missing.

Organizations such as the Strong Hearted Native American Women’s Coalition joined the gathering. The coalition makes it their mission to bring awareness, resources, and light to cases involving missing and murdered Indigenous individuals.

As the event concluded with expressions of gratitude to attendees, the central plea from Diaz’s loved ones remained clear: they need the public’s help to finally solve his disappearance and bring closure to a painful 11-year mystery. The Family is offering a $50,000 reward. Anyone with information about Bear’s disappearance is urged to contact the El Cajon Police Department’s Investigative Division

Elijah “Bear” Diaz’s family is still searching for answers 11 years after his mysterious disappearance from his El…

[5134
5229,1582,276,8324,3549,7264,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
post-1031863","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-san-diego","tag-america","tag-ca","tag-california","tag-missing-persons","tag-san-diego","tag-sandiego","tag-united-states","tag-united-states-of-america","tag-unitedstates","tag-unitedstatesofamerica","tag-us","tag-usa
["GET
