Pennsylvania officials<\/a> on Thursday said an infant and one other person were the state’s first measles-related deaths in 35 years and Shapiro went on to accuse Kennedy of contributing by spreading misinformation about the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. <\/p>\n Kennedy then said the \u201cso-called\u201d measles deaths \u201cmay have even been altogether fabricated by one of the Governor\u2019s hopeful staffers,\u201d and on Saturday morning<\/a> said he\u2019d spoken with the \u201ccountry coroner or the county commissioner,\u201d who told him \u201cthere were no measles deaths.\u201d<\/p>\n The Lancaster County coroner told the New York Times<\/a> one of the cases was in a newborn whose immediate cause of death was a lacerated spleen but because the baby tested positive for measles, and because measles makes the spleen more vulnerable to injury and rupture, the death was recorded by the state as \u201cmeasles-associated.\u201d <\/p>\n Kennedy on Saturday accused Shapiro of rolling out the “COVID playbook” in blaming the death on measles, just as he accused officials of inflating the pandemic death toll by counting people who died of another disease but had also tested positive for COVID. <\/p>\n Shapiro has refused to release additional details about the deaths, citing patient privacy, which has further fueled Kennedy’s claims that they were not directly caused by the contagious virus. <\/p>\n The back-and-forth has sparked a broader public health debate, largely falling along party lines, in which Democrats say the pushback promotes dangerous vaccine skepticism and Republicans say state health accounting is an alarmist overreach meant to justify government intervention.<\/p>\n CRUCIAL QUOTE<\/p>\n “What (Gov.
