{"id":103273,"date":"2025-07-29T23:07:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T23:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/103273\/"},"modified":"2025-07-29T23:07:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T23:07:11","slug":"what-it-means-for-season-2-chances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/103273\/","title":{"rendered":"What It Means For Season 2 Chances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSome <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/netflix\/\" id=\"auto-tag_netflix\" data-tag=\"netflix\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netflix<\/a> U.S. subscribers have been taken aback by the raunch quotient in the new culture-war soapy thriller series <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-hunting-wives\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-hunting-wives\" data-tag=\"the-hunting-wives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hunting Wives<\/a>, which features a lot more nudity and sex than the average Netflix drama, even more than the streamer\u2019s steamy Regency romance Bridgerton. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThat is because most viewers don\u2019t know the series\u2019 unusual history \u2014 up until a month and a half ago, the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/lionsgate\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lionsgate\" data-tag=\"lionsgate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lionsgate<\/a> Television-produced The Hunting Wives, starring <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/malin-akerman-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_malin-akerman-2\" data-tag=\"malin-akerman-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Malin A\u030akerman<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/brittany-snow\/\" id=\"auto-tag_brittany-snow\" data-tag=\"brittany-snow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brittany Snow<\/a>, was a <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/starz\/\" id=\"auto-tag_starz\" data-tag=\"starz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Starz<\/a> drama poised for a limited series run on the platform, a plan that was thwarted by Lionsgate and Starz\u2019s split. Starz is known for pushing the boundaries with racy content as exemplified by its tagline, \u201cWe\u2019re All Adults Here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAnother former Starz series that features frequent sex scenes, Hightown, which ran on the then-Lionsgate-owned network for three seasons, also recently launched on Netflix in the U.S. and quickly became a fixture in the streamer\u2019s Daily Top 10 rankings. (There is another connection between the two Lionsgate Television-produced series besides steamy lesbian love scenes: they are both from the same creator\/showrunner, Rebecca Cutter, giving her a rare two top-ranked Netflix series in the U.S.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Hunting Wives is different in that it has not been exposed to audiences before. While there have been subtle signs \u2014 like the Texas drama launching on a Monday vs. the typical Thursday-Friday release pattern of Netflix scripted series, and not carrying the streamer\u2019s \u201cN\u201d branding at the start of each episode \u2014 for the uninitiated viewer who doesn\u2019t read the trades, it looks like a Netflix original, not a last-minute acquisition of a series developed and produced for Starz.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/the-hunting-wives-.jpg\" alt=\"The Hunting Wives\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"576\" width=\"1024\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\u2018The Hunting Wives\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNetflix<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThat makes it even more confusing for international subscribers wondering why the show is not on Netflix. As of now, The Hunting Wives is not in many key territories including the UK, Germany and India. That will change soon. (More details in a bit.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe U.S.-only arrangement is pretty unique. While there are a handful of examples of finished (or almost finished) series that moved to Netflix before their premieres \u2014 The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt from NBC, Emily In Paris from Paramount Network, and Ripley from Showtime \u2014 they all became global Netflix originals, as did shows that relocated to Netflix after multiple seasons elsewhere like You, Manifest, Lucifer and Designated Survivor. Meanwhile, Netflix has licensed The Hunting Wives exclusively in the U.S with a one-year deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe closest comparison would be Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn\u2019s independently produced series Penelope, which was picked up for the U.S. by Netflix after its Sundance Film Festival premiere, with Fremantle subsequently taking global distribution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMeanwhile, The Hunting Wives is produced by a major studio, Lionsgate TV, which has had a distribution plan in place from the time the series was earmarked for Starz, a largely domestic player, with Lionsgate\u2019s worldwide television group selling the show to international buyers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe series is already available on Stan in Australia, Crave in Canada, OSN in the Middle East and HOT in Israel. Deadline can reveal that Lionsgate has sold the series in 10 additional territories, including the UK, Germany, France, Italy and India, where it will launch soon. Netflix is not the buyer in any of them, sources said, making the show a strictly domestic play for the global streamer \u2014 at least for now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMaybe because it was initially designed for a domestic outlet in Starz, The Hunting Wives, an adaptation of May Cobb\u2019s bestselling novel, includes U.S.-specific cultural references that reflect the current political divide between \u201cMAGA country\u201d and the \u201cCoastal elite,\u201d with themes like guns and abortion explored and terms like the infamous Hillary Clinton \u201cdeplorables\u201d slip peppered in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Hunting Wives tells the story of Sophie (Snow) and her family\u2019s move from the East Coast to deep East Texas, where she succumbs to socialite Margo Bank\u2019s (A\u030akerman) irresistible charms \u2013 and finds her life consumed by obsession, seduction and murder.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/AAAABWVDNGqX9imkC32XDjIhhh_Ts5iuV0oCf7iYEx4OUfdCNRKyFW-0vkyn2fC0jqb6Ni5w8uxA4dvbSYUiLhXCyceEuRCkX3L0.jpeg\" alt=\"The Hunting Wives\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"563\" width=\"1000\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\u2018The Hunting Wives\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNetflix<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/06\/the-hunting-wives-netflix-starz-lionsgtate-premiere-date-1236426056\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deadline reported last month<\/a> that as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/05\/lionsgate-completes-split-of-studios-starz-standalone-companies-1236388163\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1236388163\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lionsgate and Starz\u2019s separation agreement<\/a>, which went into effect May 7, Lionsgate Television negotiated the acquisition of The Hunting Wives\u2018 rights back from Starz as studio executives felt there was a better opportunity for a multi-season run on another platform versus the limited series envisioned by Starz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIndeed, while The Hunting Wives could work as a limited series, its finale sets up a potential second season of a battle royale between Margo and Sophie. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLionsgate\u2019s bet may be paying off for now \u2014 despite being only available in the U.S., The Hunting Wives <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/07\/untamed-hunting-wives-happy-gilmore-2-netflix-ratings-1236473468\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">landed on Netflix\u2019s Weekly Top 10 English-language series list<\/a> at No. 3 with 5.2 million views for its first week since debuting on the platform July 21. In the US, the drama has been consistently ranking No.2 for the past several days. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAnd Netflix labels it as a Season 1, not a limited series, as it did with Untamed, whose ratings success just<a data-id=\"1236473026\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/07\/untamed-renewed-season-2-netflix-1236473026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> secured it a second-season pickup<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAs of now, The Hunting Wives remains a Netflix U.S. exclusive under a one-year licensing deal.
