NY Post Design<\/p>\n<p>Many of the local geezers are even going for the especially potent green stuff in their golden years, pot purveyors told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Younger generations, by contrast, prefer vaping and taking edibles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/07\/health\/cannabis-may-benefit-aging-brains-study-finds\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stoner seniors<\/a> have stunned cannabis-shop workers by often requesting the strongest strains in the Big Apple.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a guy next door in his 90s who comes in, gets like 10 vapes at a time, the strongest vapes we have,\u201d said\u00a0 Skye, a 27-year-old worker at Flower Power Dispensers on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou get a higher tolerance sometimes when you get older, when you\u2019ve been smoking for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"   data-modal-image=\"40583034\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/grace-frankie-lily-tomlin-the-138398524.jpg\" alt=\"Lily Tomlin smoking a joint as Frankie in a scene from &quot;Grace and Frankie.&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-40583034\"\/>Lily Tomlin smoking marijuana in a scene from \u201cGrace and Frankie.\u201d Netflix\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>Other weed-loving oldies are former hippies who are back to the bong now that marijuana is legal, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe get a surprising number of people who tell us they were at the actual Woodstock [music festival],\u201d Skye said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re the ones who paved the way. They\u2019re the ones who were doing this when it was fully illegal, when they could go to jail for many, many years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stephanie Staten, 40, a manager at The Flowery on the Upper West Side, said some of her elderly clients ask for \u201cclassic\u201d bud such as Acapulco Gold and Sour Diesel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll have conversations where people will be like, \u2018I\u2019ve been smoking since before you were even born. I know all about this,\u2019 \u201d\u00a0Staten said.<\/p>\n<p>But \u201ca lot of older clientele, they want the strongest THC. \u2026They want potency,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The study\u2019s researchers, who surveyed 315 elderly folks for their survey, found that 11 percent of seniors had used cannabis in the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>They said more seniors reported toking marijuana more than smoking cigarettes in the past year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the stigma has decreased quite a bit across the board. Also among older people,\u201d said Dr. Jeremy Palamar from NYU Langone Health, who co-authored the report, of cannabis use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople who grew up in the late 60s, it was their generation that essentially popularized marijuana,\u201d he told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The study comes on the heels of research that last year showed more seniors were using cannabis than ever.<\/p>\n<p>Weed use among Americans ages 65 and older increased by nearly 46% from 2021 to 2023,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyu.edu\/about\/news-publications\/news\/2025\/june\/cannabis-use-older-adults.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> NYU researchers<\/a> found last year.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, about 8% of seniors 65 and older copped to marijuana use in the past year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/11\/17\/american-seniors-marijuana-medical-health-survey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">showed a 2022 federal survey<\/a> \u2014 far more than the 0.4% reported in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Additional reporting by Reuven Fenton<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Gotham granny\u2019s on grass!
