{"id":1033662,"date":"2026-08-30T21:11:20","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T21:11:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1033662\/"},"modified":"2026-08-30T21:11:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T21:11:20","slug":"hunting-addict-ordered-to-shoot-tiktok-apology-as-poaching-probe-finds-115-lbs-of-illegal-turkey-meat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1033662\/","title":{"rendered":"Hunting addict ordered to shoot TikTok apology as poaching probe finds 115 lbs of illegal turkey meat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This poacher is finally going to have to talk turkey.<\/p>\n<p>A judge ordered a wannabe outdoorsman influencer to post an apology on TikTok after he was convicted of a slew of illegal hunting charges and caught hoarding 115 pounds of turkey meat.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio resident Carter Hickey, 21, pleaded guilty to 17 wildlife crimes <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/25\/world-news\/anti-poaching-conservationist-gored-to-death-by-2900-pound-rhino-in-south-africa\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">related to poaching<\/a> after an illegal hunting probe that stretched across almost 20 states found he routinely ignored hunting laws and restrictions, according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hickey was ordered to pay $35,000 and spent 15 months in jail after he admitted to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/04\/us-news\/long-islanders-asked-to-slaughter-deer-as-growing-wildlife-population-wreaks-havoc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">slaughtering wildlife<\/a> during hunting off-seasons, hunting without permission and even killing animals using a motor vehicle, the agency said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.33333333;display:block\" decoding=\"async\"   data-modal-image=\"40583514\" width=\"787\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2025-carter-j-hickey-21-139012098.jpg\" alt=\"Carter J. Hickey poses with five dead wild turkeys lined up on the ground.\" class=\"wp-image-40583514\"\/>Carter Hickey, a 21-year-old from Ohio, became the focus of a multi-state investigation after violating wildlife laws in at least 17 states. FWS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese weren\u2019t small mistakes,\u201d said service spokesperson Tina Shaw, who added officers also seized his ill-gotten turkey meat and 47 whole or partial turkey fans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile he was busy poaching, Hickey posted false information about his activities on TikTok, bragging about his hunting skills, despite many of his actions being illegal \u2014 because of this, he was required to post an apology on the same channel and was required to write a letter to the City of Dover for trespassing and unlawfully taking a 10-point buck in a public park.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It appeared that Hickey hadn\u2019t posted the apology by Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>As part of his punishment, Hickey was also sentenced to 15 days in jail and ordered to complete two years of community control sanctions, pay court costs on every charge within 30 days and complete 80 hours of community service within 18 months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was also ordered to pay $12,000 in restitution, $5,500 in fines and $11,000 in additional penalties \u2014 including $6,000 in lieu of forfeiting his pickup truck \u2014 plus a separate $5,000 contribution to the Ohio Turn In a Poacher program, and had his hunting license revoked for five years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This poacher is finally going to have to talk turkey.
