You\u2019re spoilt for choice when it comes to new video games<\/a> launching in September, including new exclusives from Sony<\/a> and Nintendo<\/a>, a Capcom<\/a> revival, and, of course, football.<\/p>\n August is never a busy time for new video game releases, but there were some notable titles, including beginner friendly Soulslike Mortal Shell 2<\/a>, game of the year contender Big Walk<\/a>, and Pok\u00e9mon Pokopia\u2019s first DLC expansion<\/a>.<\/p>\n One look at September\u2019s release schedule makes it obvious that not only is the summer games drought over, but that publishers are running scared of GTA 6<\/a>\u2019s November launch.<\/p>\n The month is so jam packed that our list of the most exciting new video games has wound up much longer than normal, as there are simply too many intriguing games to ignore\u2026 and October threatens to be just as stacked.<\/p>\n Because there\u2019s so many new games it should mean there\u2019s something for everyone in September, regardless of your platform of choice or your taste in genres.<\/p>\n Those with broader interests, however, be warned: you may have to choose one game over another when you see what\u2019s on the docket.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tExpert, exclusive gaming analysis\t\t\t<\/p>\n Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter<\/strong><\/a> for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Crimson Moon<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, and PC<\/p>\n Apparently Soulslikes are like buses because after a notable lack of new entries in the genre there\u2019s suddenly this, less than two weeks after Mortal Shell 2. Stop us if you\u2019ve heard this one before, but Crimson Moon is a gothic fantasy action role-player where you\u2019re fighting swathes of demons \u2013 although this time you\u2019re cast as a human\/angel hybrid.<\/p>\n Crimson Moon made a name for itself at previous PlayStation showcases<\/a> and although it can be played solo, it\u2019s one of the few Soulslikes with a traditional co-op mode all the way through.<\/p>\n Plus, it promises not to be overly expensive. A UK price hasn\u2019t been confirmed yet, but it\u2019s only $19.99 in the US. That\u2019s about \u00a315 over here, although it\u2019ll probably round up to \u00a319.99.<\/p>\n Release date: 1st September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC<\/p>\n Eight years after the first Moonlighter, Spanish developer Digital Sun is back with a sequel, which technically launched last November in early access but is seeing a full console and PC release in September.<\/p>\n Just like the first game, Moonlighter 2 is an action role-player with roguelite elements, where you explore dungeons by night and then run a shop during the day, selling whatever loot you gathered to bolster your equipment and improve the village you live in.<\/p>\n The shop management is much deeper than it sounds, as you need to set the prices of the wares yourself and meet the needs of your customers. If you\u2019re at all interested, there\u2019s a free demo available across all platforms.<\/p>\n Release date: 2nd September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Blood Of Dawnwalker<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, and PC<\/p>\n The debut title of Rebel Wolves, a studio formed of former CD Projekt staff, The Blood Of Dawnwalker, is not shy about emphasising The Witcher 3<\/a> connection in its advertising or the general style of the game.<\/p>\n After our hands-on preview session<\/a>, we were pleased to see it\u2019s not bereft of its own ideas, and is more than just The Witcher-but-you\u2019re-a-vampire. There\u2019s a concerted effort to improve on The Witcher\u2019s combat and you can take advantage of vampire powers during night-time sections, such as teleportation and walking up walls.<\/p>\n You have an in-game timer of 30 days and 30 nights to save your family, but time only progresses at specific points in the story, giving you the freedom to spend your time however you please, from exploring the open world to clearing side quests.<\/p>\n Release date: 3rd September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Orbitals<\/p>\n Nintendo Switch 2<\/p>\n Given the success of Hazelight\u2019s It Takes Two<\/a> and Split Fiction<\/a>, you\u2019d think there would be more co-op copycats on the market. Like anything else, they just take time to make, with Orbitals having been unveiled at The Game Awards 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n Developed at Japanese studio Shapefarm, its influences are obvious (one of its directors used to work at Hazelight), but it stands out thanks to a distinct and charming 80s anime inspired art style.<\/p>\n Since it\u2019s a Switch 2 exclusive, it supports the console\u2019s GameShare feature so a friend or family member can not only play Orbitals without needing their own copy, but they can do so via the original Switch too.<\/p>\n Release date: 3rd September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Onimusha: Way Of The Sword<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, and PC<\/p>\n It\u2019s been 20 years since the last proper Onimusha game and Capcom is reviving the series in a big way, via a soft reboot that boasts the same stellar graphics seen in the company\u2019s Resident Evil remakes.<\/p>\n Capcom has had a killer year so far, thanks to the likes of Resident Evil Requiem<\/a> and Pragmata<\/a>, and we\u2019re confident Onimusha: Way Of The Sword will be another feather in the company\u2019s cap, based on our own<\/a> hands-on sessions<\/a>.<\/p>\n Its excellent sword combat is very approachable and has a satisfying rhythm to it, especially when you cleave an enemy in two. We highly recommend you try the public demo if you\u2019ve yet to do so, especially since it\u2019s recently been updated with additional content.<\/p>\n Release date: 4th Septembe<\/strong>r<\/p>\n<\/p>\n NBA 2K27<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC<\/p>\n One of two annual sports games out in September, this year\u2019s NBA 2K basketball game is distinct since the series is finally ditching last gen consoles and will only be available on current hardware.<\/p>\n Publisher 2K and developer Visual Concepts have promised a number of gameplay improvements, including smarter AI opponents, new offensive mechanics, and expanded customisation options.<\/p>\n While the game launches early September, it\u2019s technically already playable via early access, if you\u2019ve purchased the Deluxe or Ultra edition, which are significantly pricier than the base game at \u00a389.99 and \u00a3129.99, respectively.<\/p>\n Release date: 4th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Halloween: The Game<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, and PC<\/p>\n Although Dead By Daylight still dominates the genre, developer IllFonic definitely has a monopoly on asymmetric multiplayer games based on 80s horror movies, as evidenced by its games based on Friday The 13th<\/a>, Predator<\/a>, and Killer Klowns From Outer Space<\/a>.<\/p>\n Now, the studio\u2019s bringing the formula to the Halloween franchise, casting you as either a scared civilian fleeing Michael Meyers or as the unstoppable killer himself.<\/p>\n Based on IllFonic\u2019s previous work, Halloween: The Game is bound to be an authentic love letter to the movies. Although hopefully it won\u2019t run into the same licensing issues as the notoriously complicated Friday The 13th.<\/p>\n Release date: 8th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Valheim 1.0<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC<\/p>\n Valheim<\/a> was a surprisehit when it launched in early access all the way back in 2021, thanks to it being a compelling and easy to approach Viking themed survival game.<\/p>\n Five years later and Iron Gate Studio, a small Swedish team of only 16 people, are ready to bring Valheim out of early access, which means the game will also be available on consoles.<\/p>\n The 1.0 launch coincides with the addition of a new Deep North biome and will feature crossplay so up to 10 players can team up and explore, no matter which platform they\u2019re on.<\/p>\n Release date: 9th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Hot Wheels Infinite Rush<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC<\/p>\n Italian developer Milestone has been pumping out racing games for more than 30 years and despite launching three of them this year, including the excellent anime-esque Screamer<\/a> back in March, it\u2019s following up with another Hot Wheels game.<\/p>\n Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is the third Hot Wheels licensed game to come out of the studio, with this one offering an open world spread across four islands, making it look like a more colourful and kid friendly Forza Horizon 6<\/a>.<\/p>\n The actual racing looks enjoyably frantic and it lets you build your own racetracks; a feature that\u2019s well overdue for Mario Kart. Sadly, while the game promises crossplay, that doesn\u2019t include the Switch 2 version.<\/p>\n Release date: 10th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/p>\n PlayStation 5<\/p>\n Between its 2021 reveal<\/a> and the 2023 hacking incident<\/a>, it has been a long and hectic wait for Insomniac\u2019s Wolverine game, but one that should be worth it given the pedigree of the studio and its past work on the Spider-Man games<\/a>.<\/p>\n We found ourselves enjoying it more than some of the more unflattering previews suggested, during our own hands-on session<\/a>, thanks to the easy-to-grasp controls and a very brutal combat style, that feels fitting for Wolverine as a character and harkens back to old school scrolling beat \u2018em-ups.<\/p>\n The mixed previews, and Sony\u2019s plans to abandon physical games <\/a>after 2027, are unlikely to affect Wolverine\u2019s chances but you can bet there\u2019ll still be a few held breaths at PlayStation HQ when it first comes out.<\/p>\n Release date: 15th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Runescape: Dragonwilds<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC<\/p>\n Given the longevity of Runescape within the MMO space, we\u2019re somewhat surprised it\u2019s taken until now for publisher and developer Jagex to branch out into spin-off territory.<\/p>\n A co-op survival game with an emphasis on using magic for even the most mundane of tasks (like throwing a spectral axe to cut down multiple trees at once), Runescape: Dragonwilds saw an early access PC launch in April 2025, but will see a full release, including console versions, in September.<\/p>\n If user reviews on Steam<\/a> are anything to go by, most players already sound very satisfied with the game and even after numerous updates, Jagex is promising more additions throughout the rest of the year.<\/p>\n Release date: 15th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Fire Emblem: Fortune\u2019s Weave<\/p>\n Nintendo Switch 2<\/p>\n Nintendo\u2019s next big exclusive, Fire Emblem: Fortune\u2019s Weave, initially looked like another workmanlike entry in the strategy role-playing series, but as more of it has been shown off, the more interesting it\u2019s got.<\/p>\n You can read our hands-on preview<\/a> for a more detailed breakdown, but its early hours promise an intriguing story and snappy, in-depth combat, as well as a lot of extraneous activities to do in between your colosseum matches, such as exploring dungeons and completing all manner of side quests.<\/p>\n It could stand to have a better script, but there\u2019s some real ambition behind Fire Emblem: Fortune\u2019s Weave and enough content to justify its price tag, which could make it the best modern entry in the series so far.<\/p>\n Release date: 17th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Trails In The Sky 2nd Chapter<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC<\/p>\n Nihon Falcom only launched a remake of the first entry in its long running Trails series of role-playing games last year and yet it already has the sequel ready to go.<\/p>\n Much like the first game, it comes with overhauled graphics and an updated version of the hybrid turn-based and real-time battle system, plus it will carry over your save data from the first game too. A free demo is currently available across PlayStation 5, Switch 1, and PC (the Switch 1 demo works on Switch 2).<\/p>\n This isn\u2019t even the only Trails game out in September, as there will also be updated PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 ports of Trails From Zero and its sequel Trails To Azure on September 10.<\/p>\n Release date: 17th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Dune: Awakening<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, and PC<\/p>\n Funcom\u2019s Dune survival game has been available on PC since last year, but a console port is finally set to launch in September. The timing\u2019s almost perfect too as the long-awaited Dune: Part 3 is coming to cinemas in December.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re unfamiliar with the game, Dune: Awakening is set in an alternate timeline from the movies, and has you playing as a custom character while you try to survive the desert planet of Arrakis. So yes, there are lots of sandworms.<\/p>\n Through scavenging and spice trading, you\u2019ll eventually build your own base of operations, form a guild, and join either House Atreides or House Harkonnen. While you can play the game solo, you can also set up or join a multiplayer server.<\/p>\n Release date: 22nd September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Control Resonant<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, and PC<\/p>\n We\u2019ve always considered Control<\/a> to be easily Remedy\u2019s best game, so we\u2019re very happy to see more of it, instead of Alan Wake 3. Although the two games do exist in the same fictional universe.<\/p>\n While it still promises to be engagingly weird, with its trippy visuals and a range of superpowers, Control Resonant ditches its third person shooter focus and is instead an action role-player that emphasises melee combat.<\/p>\n Although the game will launch in September as promised, Remedy says physical copies of Control Resonant won\u2019t be available until October 15, saying in an X post<\/a> \u2018We need just a little more time to deliver the physical version.\u2019<\/p>\n Release date: 24th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Silent Hill: Townfall<\/p>\n PlayStation 5 and PC<\/p>\n Between the Silent Hill 2 remake<\/a> and Silent Hill f<\/a>, Konami\u2019s efforts to revive the horror series have been very successful\u2026 now that the disaster of Ascension<\/a> and The Short Message<\/a> have been quietly forgotten.<\/p>\n The next entry will hopefully keep the winning streak going, although Scottish developer Screen Burn (formerly No Code) is hard to predict, as they made both the excellent Stories Untold<\/a> and the incredibly boring Observer<\/a>.<\/p>\n Silent Hill: Townfall is mixing things up by bringing the series to the UK for the first time, with its Scottish fishing village setting looking very authentic. Even though we\u2019re not sure we\u2019ve heard a single Scottish accent in the trailers so far.<\/p>\n Release date: 24th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n EA Sports FC 27<\/p>\n PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC<\/p>\n Unlike NBA 2K27, EA Sports FC 27 is still coming to last gen consoles, so those of you still on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One won\u2019t need to upgrade your hardware just yet.<\/p>\n This doesn\u2019t meant EA Sports FC 27 will be lacking in innovation though. Based on our hands-on preview<\/a>, EA\u2019s continuing to iterate upon the last game\u2019s gameplay changes, while addressing fan complaints. Career and Ultimate Team modes are being revamped too and the new The Grounds hub looks interesting.<\/p>\n As with previous entries, you can start playing a week early on September 18 if you pre-order the Ultimate Edition, but there\u2019s a new Ultimate Plus Edition<\/a> this year as well, with even more content included alongside early access.<\/p>\n Release date: 25th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Minecraft Dungeons 2<\/p>\n Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC<\/p>\n Minecraft Dungeons<\/a> was a decent enough expy of arcade classic Gauntlet, with solid combat, co-op action, and generous pricing, but it didn\u2019t make such a big splash that a sequel felt like it was guaranteed.<\/p>\n Double Eleven is back as developer and although Minecraft Dungeons 2 will be another hack \u2018n\u2019 slash dungeon crawler, it is trying to expand on the ideas from the first game. There are more varied biomes for a start, and a new inventory system means players can individually adjust their items.<\/p>\n At the very least, this will likely be a harmless way of spending a few hours with any young, Minecraft-obsessed relatives you may have. It\u2019ll certainly be a better alternative to sitting through the Minecraft movie again.<\/p>\n Release date: 29th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Toem 2<\/p>\n PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC<\/p>\n Toem: A Photo Adventure<\/a> was a delightfully whimsical indie game built around taking pictures for people within a black and white isometric world.
