{"id":1034666,"date":"2026-08-31T09:23:31","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T09:23:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1034666\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T09:23:31","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T09:23:31","slug":"us-plans-to-sanction-another-bank-to-keep-economic-pressure-on-iran-us-israel-war-on-iran-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1034666\/","title":{"rendered":"US plans to sanction another bank to keep economic pressure on Iran | US-Israel war on Iran News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">Washington has recently stepped up efforts to economically pressure Tehran amid the deadlocked truce talks.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"avatar\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/author\/adam-hancock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Headshot-1-1706763439.jpg\"   aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Published On 31 Aug 202631 Aug 2026<\/p>\n<p>Washington plans to impose sanctions on another bank this week as it steps up its campaign to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/features\/2026\/8\/25\/trumps-latest-wave-of-iran-sanctions-which-60-entities-are-targeted\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">economically isolate<\/a> Tehran amid the deadlocked truce talks, the US Treasury chief has said.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Associated Press news agency on Sunday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declined to name the bank to be targeted by sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>Recommended Stories list of 3 itemsend of list<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes just days after Washington said it would cut off the United Arab Emirates\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/8\/30\/banque-misr-egypts-second-largest-hit-by-us-sanctions-what-to-know\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">operations of Basque Misr<\/a> from the US financial system after accusing Egypt\u2019s second-biggest bank of doing business with the Iranian government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is going to be financial violence if we have to,\u201d Bessent told AP on Sunday. \u201cWe are showing people that we know who you are, you know who you are, and this has got to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u2060In an interview with the Reuters news agency, Bessent said the next step may be cutting off an institution entirely from the dollar-based financial system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cYou\u2019re going \u2060to see a lot \u2060more of these every week,\u201d he said on Sunday, ahead of a Group of 20 finance leaders \u2060meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. \u201cWe\u2019re starting with the banks, and we\u2019re telling \u2060the banks it\u2019s not OK \u2060to have Iranian money and to aid the regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The US has stepped up efforts to economically pressure Tehran to submit to Washington\u2019s demands, a campaign dubbed \u201cOperation Economic Outcast\u201d, amid the stalled truce talks between both parties.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Treasury Department imposed new sanctions on nearly 60 individuals and entities that Washington accused of being part of networks helping Iran generate oil revenue, procure weapons and conduct cyber-operations.<\/p>\n<p>Iran, however, has rejected the latest US sanctions, with Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Ali Madanizadeh saying they will fail.<\/p>\n<p>Violence in the conflict <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/8\/30\/us-strikes-irans-lark-island-in-first-attack-in-weeks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">resumed on Sunday<\/a>, the first time since late July, with Iran launching missiles at two US bases in Jordan following a US attack on Larak Island in southern Iran.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cooperation against Iran<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bessent is preparing to host the meeting of the G20\u2019s finance leaders, where he will huddle individually with his counterparts from the world\u2019s major and developing economies to encourage cooperation against Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The US Treasury chief also told AP that he would speak to his Chinese counterparts at the meeting and \u201call options are on the table\u201d in terms of sanctioning Beijing for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/economy\/2026\/8\/25\/china-says-will-safeguard-its-own-interests-as-us-expands-iran-sanctions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">continued trade with Tehran<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But he rejected the idea that the US was reluctant to confront China, calling it \u201ca completely false narrative that the media picked up on\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He insisted that Beijing and Washington agreed on the need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Washington has recently stepped up efforts to economically pressure Tehran amid the deadlocked truce talks.
