{"id":1034813,"date":"2026-08-31T11:33:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T11:33:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1034813\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T11:33:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T11:33:16","slug":"san-antonio-city-officials-say-they-are-working-to-repair-damaged-traffic-signals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1034813\/","title":{"rendered":"San Antonio city officials say they are working to repair damaged traffic signals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 The effects of the winds from Friday\u2019s storm continue to linger throughout parts of San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">During a press briefing Sunday morning, Deputy City Manager Maria Villagomez said most of the calls that have inundated the 311 call center have had to do with power outages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">CPS Energy crews have been working to restore electricity to all of its customers and at the same time, they are working with city departments to get damaged traffic lights working again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cAs of [Sunday] morning, we have restored 79 traffic signals that were not operational,\u201d Villagomez said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">At the time of the news conference, Villagomez said 45 traffic lights were on flashing red mode and 119 others were still listed as offline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">As of 6 p.m. Sunday, an official with San Antonio\u2019s Public Works Department said 132 traffic signals have been restored with 74 others still needing some type of repair. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">The PWD, along with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), maintain the traffic signals within the San Antonio city limits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Following the storm, drivers have seen dead traffic signals and lights flashing red. Some are twisted, hanging by a thread or missing altogether. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">The powerful winds that blew through knocked out power to some traffic lights or completely ripped them off the power line. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cIf you\u2019re approaching an intersection where traffic signal is not working, please use extra caution,\u201d Interim San Antonio Police Chief Jesse Salame said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Until damaged signal lights are repaired, Salame said drivers are need to treat intersections as a four-way stop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">To ensure safety at some intersections in the midst of the heavy flow of school and work traffic at the week begins, Salame said drivers can expect to see officers out and about. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cSAPD will continue to monitor those major intersections that are affected by those signal outages and we will assist with traffic control and high traffic areas as needed,\u201d Salame said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">In addition, Salame is asking the public to call 311 \u2014 not 911 \u2014 to report fallen trees blocking streets and damaged power lines.
