DILLEY, Texas<\/strong> \u2013 Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-San Antonio) said a father and daughter from the Alamo City were released from an immigration detention facility in Dilley.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Following his latest visit to the facility, which is operated by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Castro announced the release of Jes\u00fas Bracho and his 9-year-old daughter, Katherine. <\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Castro said the two were detained by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers during a traffic stop. <\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Castro\u2019s office said the family members were detained on July 1, 2026, near Loop 410 and U.S. Highway 90 on the West Side. <\/p>\n

When troopers stopped him, Castro said Bracho told his daughter, Katherine, to go inside his employer\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

\u201cDPS called ICE and took Jes\u00fas,\u201d Castro wrote in an Aug. 7 post to X<\/a>. \u201cICE agents came back and then forced him to lure his daughter out so they could take her too.\u201d<\/p>\n

A DHS spokesperson at the time told KSAT the father and daughter would remain in ICE custody \u201cpending approval.\u201d <\/p>\n

Castro is also calling for the release of Maria Rocio Rocha, the mother of a San Antonio midshipman with the Navy. The congressman said ICE detained Rocha Aug. 25 while attending a green card interview. <\/p>\n

Rocha requested a visit directly with Castro\u2019s congressional office. <\/p>\n

\u201cDespite the fact I presented them with the form, they denied me the ability to see Maria, claiming that we need 48 hours notice in order to do that,\u201d Castro said. \u201cDespite the fact that, as a U.S. member of Congress who\u2019s doing an official inspection, I\u2019m trying to see somebody who\u2019s in this detention center, who has given me permission to visit with her. And they\u2019re still denying me that opportunity.\u201d <\/p>\n

In all, the congressman has visited the family detention center in Dilley nine times this year and has continued to urge for the facility\u2019s investigation and closure. <\/p>\n

DHS officials have maintained that the facility is lawfully operated and guarantees the safety of its detainees. <\/p>\n
