{"id":1034953,"date":"2026-08-31T13:35:26","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T13:35:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1034953\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T13:35:26","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T13:35:26","slug":"chicago-man-charged-after-gun-drugs-found-during-traffic-stop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/1034953\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicago man charged after gun, drugs found during traffic stop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1786562663_163_default-image.png\" alt=\"Livestream\" class=\"livestream-poster-image\" data-v-0c9d18f6=\"\"\/>       <\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\"><strong>CHICAGO<\/strong> &#8211; A Chicago man is facing felony gun and drug charges after a traffic stop in Chatham led to the recovery of a loaded firearm and suspected ecstasy.<\/p>\n<p>   South Side traffic stop arrest <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"WFLD\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-94395e58=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Cook County Sheriff\u2019s police stopped a black Honda CR-V around 5:20 p.m. Aug. 24 in the 8400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue after the driver allegedly used a designated turn lane to pass traffic.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Investigators said they learned there was weed in the vehicle and asked the driver, 35-year-old Roy Coppage, and a passenger to get out while they searched for narcotics.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">During the search, investigators found a backpack containing a loaded gun, suspected ecstasy, ammunition and additional pills, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/roy-coppage.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" width=\"932\" height=\"524\" data-v-2fe2fe3e=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<p data-v-2fe2fe3e=\"\">Roy Coppage and items recovered during traffic stop | CCSO <\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Investigators determined the backpack belonged to Coppage and learned that his FOID card had been revoked, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Coppage was taken into custody.<\/p>\n<p> The charges <\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Later that night, the Cook County State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s Office charged Coppage with possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender and possession of a controlled substance.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">He was also charged with misdemeanor unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and cited for improper use of a designated lane.<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"WFLD\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-94395e58=\"\">What&#8217;s next:<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Coppage was ordered into Cook County Jail custody following his first court appearance Aug. 25. He is due back in court Monday.<\/p>\n<p> Arrest history <\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Chicago police records show Coppage has been arrested at least three times since 2016.
