JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 A disabled Jacksonville homeowner says he is still searching for answers one month after a car slammed into his house and left significant damage that has made part of his home inaccessible.<\/p>\n
Dwayne Coly is a Marine veteran who has lived in his Normandy Jacksonville home for about five years. He relies on inclined lifts to get up his staircase. Since the crash on July 29, 2026, he has not been able to use them.<\/p>\n
Coly told Action News Jax he was asleep when he heard what sounded like an explosion. He said he briefly thought someone had broken into his home. Investigators later determined his house had been hit in a crash that turned into a hit-and-run.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was shock. I mean, I was flabbergasted; I didn\u2019t expect that,\u201d Coly said.<\/p>\n
Coly showed Action News Jax video from his Vivint security camera that captured the man who crashed into his home leaving the scene. In the recording, you can hear someone say, \u201cOh my back.\u201d<\/p>\n
A crash report Coly provided says the impact damaged the side of the house, the stairwell, and the handicapped chair inside. It also says attempts to locate the suspect had negative results and that investigators planned to seek an arrest warrant through the State Attorney\u2019s Office. The report lists the driver as 22-year-old Gage Remington Carter. A month later, no arrest has been made.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I think about the cowardice of how he did it, you know that definitely irritates, but at the end of it, you with over a little over 30 days and they still haven\u2019t apprehended the person that also kind of wears on me as well,\u201d Coly said.<\/p>\n
Coly says he has been paying out of pocket for transportation because his car was damaged. He expects repairs inside his home to take months and says he will need temporary housing while that work is done.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose initial expenses come from me to cover with my different insurance premiums and my different, the things that they require for me to do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The report also says two other people were in the car. One was the owner of the vehicle but was sitting in the back seat. The other person left the scene but will not face charges.<\/p>\n
Action News Jax reached out to the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office for an update on the investigation and arrests. They could not provide any information.<\/p>\n
Coly is asking anyone with information about that night to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
