{"id":103643,"date":"2025-07-30T02:25:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T02:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/103643\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T02:25:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T02:25:09","slug":"severe-weather-threat-prompts-beach-hazard-amid-dropping-temps-nbc-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/103643\/","title":{"rendered":"Severe weather threat prompts beach hazard amid dropping temps \u2013 NBC Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After weeks of sweltering heat, the Chicago area will finally see a drop in temperatures this week \u2013 but not without showers and possible thunderstorms, the NBC 5 Storm Team said.<\/p>\n<p>A cluster of thunderstorms will work their way toward Chicago Wednesday, but the city is sitting in the \u201cfringe of the marginal risk\u201d based on radar and satellite predictions, the NBC 5 Meteorologist Brant Miller said.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s weather was \u201cthe last hurrah at least for this experience of heat,\u201d Miller said.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone looking to relish in the cooler temps should stay out of the lake as a beach hazard warning will be in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a look at what weather to expect over the next few days:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wednesday morning has a chance of showers and thunderstorms, but the morning commute likely won\u2019t be impacted, Miller said.<\/p>\n<p>A steady temperature around 76 degrees is anticipated, according to NWS. After 4 p.m., showers are likely and thunderstorms are possible.<\/p>\n<p>There is an elevated risk of flooding and an elevated thunderstorm risk in portions of north central Illinois, northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana, according to NWS.<\/p>\n<p>Wind gusts as high as 25 mph and rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible, NWS predicts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looks like this is leaning toward more of a wind and heavy rainfall event, but you can\u2019t rule out an outside chance of a tornado,\u201d Miller said.<\/p>\n<p>Periods of thunderstorms are likely Wednesday through Thursday morning, with some anticipated to possibly produce torrential rain and localized flash flooding, according to NWS.<\/p>\n<p>The heavy wind and rainfall create a high swim risk for all Lake Michigan beaches.<\/p>\n<p>A beach hazards statement will go into effect Wednesday afternoon and stay active through Friday afternoon, according to NWS.<\/p>\n<p>Large waves between 5 to 8 feet and dangerous currents are expected at Lake Michigan beaches and swimming conditions will be life threatening.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a chance of thunderstorms before 10 a.m., followed by a chance of showers until 1 p.m., NWS predicts.<\/p>\n<p>The day will start cloudy and then the sun will come out gradually, with a high near 72 degrees, according to NWS.<\/p>\n<p>There might be some lingering showers in the south suburbs in the afternoon, Miller said.<\/p>\n<p>The beach hazard statement will remain in effect for all of Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Friday could see some lake-effect showers, but no heavy rainfall, Miller predicted.<\/p>\n<p>NWS predicts a high near 74 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>The beach hazard statement will remain in effect until Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Friday night will be mostly clear with a low around 63 degrees, according to NWS.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"After weeks of sweltering heat, the Chicago area will finally see a drop in temperatures this week \u2013&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":103644,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5124],"tags":[960,7123,5386,1818],"class_list":{"0":"post-103643","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-chicago","8":"tag-chicago","9":"tag-chicago-weather","10":"tag-il","11":"tag-illinois"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/114939817228668513","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/103643","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=103643"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/103643\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/103644"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=103643"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=103643"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=103643"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
